Thread regarding Anadarko Petroleum Corp. layoffs

There are hardly any jobs out here in the E&P world...........

For those of you that kept your job be happy you still have one. I have been looking hard since 3/11, and there is very little out here from the technical side. I am sure the jobs I have applied for have a ton of competition as well. Sometimes it gets easy to complain about where we work, but not having a job really opens your eyes. I am on the fence when it comes to early retirement, and need the APC stock to go back up to maybe make it happen. I have cut expenses and have things under control while I look, but it is going to be a long time before jobs come back like they were. Unemployment pays $958.00 every two weeks, so at least that pays some bills. I wish you all the best, and be glad you are not out here looking in.

No hiring until things stabilize for a prolonged period.

Unless oil rockets back up another 50% AND stays put for a while, don't expect a massive hiring spree. As it is, most companies are still overstaffed for current market conditions. Companies are choosing to hold onto excess staff in the event of an upturn. If that doesn't materialize, look out below.

Depends on what analyst you're listening to. That's probably the most pessimistic outlook I've heard. Do to falling production in the US and Possible opec cuts, surplus could dry up to 200k bopd by 16Q4. 50 to 60 per barrel avg in 2017. Might go into the 40s to keep swing producers nervous. We could see massive a massive hiring spree next year in the industry if that happens.

Latest estimate is that this downturn will be lower and longer. It could last for the next 2-3 years until 2019. So time to look into retirement seriously. Or find a lower-paying job to get health insurance to tie over until retirement.
