Thread regarding Anadarko Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Galveston, TX

I was part of the staff reductions on March 10, and, I’ve decided to spend time reflecting and contemplating my time with APC and explore possible next steps in my career. I’ve decided to visit the beautiful and pristine beaches of Galveston, Texas where I can spend time re-discovering and learning about myself as I navigate through the uncharted waters of unemployment. Indeed, Galveston has always held a special place in my heart...beautiful turquoise water, white sandy beaches, production platforms under a blood red sunset, and abandoned hypodermic needles strewn across the seascape. I’m considering a trip from Colorado to Texas and can’t wait to feel the refreshing sea breeze laced with the stench of dead and decaying animal carcasses. Could someone please provide a brief to-do list of places for me to visit and explore?

Galveston, oh, Galveston

I still hear your seawinds blowing

I still see her dark eyes glowing

She was twenty one, when I left Galveston

Galveston, oh, Galveston

I still hear your seawaves crashin

While I watch the cannons flashin'

I clean my gun, and dream of Galveston

I still see her standing by the water

Standing there looking out to sea

And is she waiting there for me

On the beach where we used to run

Galveston, oh, Galveston

I am so afraid of dying

Before I dry the tears she's crying

Before I watch your sea birds flying

In the sun, at Galveston, at Galveston

Start with visiting Bobby Reeves palatial place in Galveston.... Drinks and hot tubbing. Next a swing in the APC jet to AL's home in Southern California ..... Maybe some play time with the Walker family. Then circle around to the Gwins home in Jackson Hole - maybe some skiing and hiking with cocktails. This should all be included in your parting benefits from the fabulous HR department ! Finish it up with swing through the depressing haunt of the APC office in downtown Denver.

Just fire one up on the mountain side and imagine the salty Galveston breeze.

Wow! Thanks so much for the list of amazing things to see and do in the Galveston area! I can't wait to sample the local flavor and re-discover myself and mingle with the local citizenry. I’ve heard Vidor is an open-minded community that accepts people from all cultures. The excitement is simply overwhelming!

If art and culture is your thing you might want to visit Rick's Snake Pit - 10 miles north of Galveston along I45. Lady Lovelace & The Libidos have currently been playing nightly at Rick's for the last 5 years. If you're more a hands on guy (gal, whatever) then there is an endless assortment of second hand used tire shops throughout the Galveston/Houston area that you can poke through. If eating is your bag then a visit to Pee Wee's Possum Eatery just off Galveston's main drag to a must do. If your wanting to see white sand during your visit to Galveston's beach then bring some when you come. I hope this was helpful. Good luck.

You have a great trip planned! I would definitely check out Beaumont, TX which is only a short drive away, plus Vidor is another great option. You’ll leave feeling culturally refreshed and invigorated. There are many things to see and do, especially Vidor. Be sure to take in the local hiking and culture as there are many good opportunities to explore nature, especially if you enjoy wallowing in knee deep mud and hanging out with water moccasins. There is, however, one more item I should add which is surfing. Galveston is a world renowned surfing destination and offers plenty of opportunities to catch those monster waves! Wow, I truly envy to journey! Good luck and have fun! Hang ten dude!
