So I hear they will be shutting down the Broussard repair facility in Louisiana. A few lucky will get to stay to get inventory shipped out while the rest will get the boot. Kind of needed up some get a cushion to start looking for a new job while others will pretty much get a swift kick out the door.

I agree.....going no where fast.....The Broussard facility was the cheapest to keep open, not to mention probably the only roof top that is still making money, and its in the hub of oil field country. Poor move GE, It is a shame that you will be losing that great bunch of hard working individuals. It was a privilege to work with them from Houston and the wealth of knowledge they shared was amazing. I guess this might be the downfall of the services industry, and we all know its hard to make money without great services.
Farewell GE Broussard, Best wishes and good luck!
Wow. I can't beleive Immelt is letting this happen! Closing the only drilling equipment facility in the Gulf of Mexico oilfield HUB. And probably the cheapest to operate out of all oil & gas facilities. Houston employs over ten times the personnel that work in Broussard.
Way to plan for the future GE.
I compare this to selling vehicles without wheels.
Going no where fast!
So, let me begin by saying that this is coming from the horses mouth. Nobody is getting the swift boot out the door. Everyone that is being laid off is receiving ample notice and a severance package (though the package is not big, it's better than nothing). We were all notified on April 11 that the plant will be closing. Granted, some are leaving earlier than others, because there just isn't enough work for everyone to stay until the doors close. I am one of those that only have a few short weeks left. Instead of complaining, whining, and worrying, I'm using this time to seek out new employment and possible education avenues.
Do I like the fact that I'm losing my job, a job that I really like, a job that is near perfect for me?!? No, I don't like it, but I can't control everything in my life and this is one of those things that I can't control. What I CAN control is my attitude and what's going to happen down the road, because I'm the one that's making the choice…the choice to take this as an opportunity to do something new, something different. And after speaking with a number of coworkers whom I'm going to miss dearly, a lot of them are doing the same thing.

No, it's not a comfortable time for us appreciate and we appreciate everybody that keeps us in your prayers, but there's one thing working at GE that is taught me: spend more time and energy making things happen than trying to avoid getting something done.
Officially announced to close broussard plant, no rumours this time.... Few service engineers located there would move to JFK or NHR.... Remaining will be kicked off.
GE still remains one of the safest company to work for during this downturn in the industry. Unfortunately, GE can't save everyone's job. At the end of the day this is a business and sometimes difficult decisions need to be made. Just keep working hard and focus on the now and not the tomorrow. I'm sure more layoffs will come and this is not the end. You will find another job and will move on. For the people that are still employed be thankful. For the people that have just recently been layedoff stay strong.
Sincerely,
The Horse!!
Yea, thats what the rumors are on our end. Either way, we can't stop the results of this downturn. What will be, will be. I know plenty of colleagues who've lost their jobs and all are making it just fine. All I can say is Goodluck to all and that things will be fine.
