There are 24 new job openings at Hal posted on a popular career search website. Many of them look like they would be at Landmark.

Landmark has excellent goodwill and good old products which are still bringing in revenues. However, they never cared to update their products. The new chief took initiative to address this which, it looks, has not paid off. A case in point is the popular TOW production allocation application, written in COBOL with which I am familiar. The clients loved it, but we were not able to address their changing needs due to age old technology. PETRIS was acquired; they had an unproven production allocation application developed by a bunch of guys without any domain knowledge. This application was named DSPA; the cocky Petris guys, enjoying the full support of upper Management, added more personnel and offshore teams. What followed was a very antagonistic relationship with the domain experts in services who were totally ignored. Our TOW clients who watched DSPA demos commented that the application was a joke. Three large clients moved to competitor’s declining the huge discounts that Landmark offered. Revenue was zilch until recently. Yet the cocky guys moved up in the organization; claiming direct access to the Chief, they threated that the fate of anyone speaking against the product is sealed. This turned out to be true.
