Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Depressing

Everyday I sit at my desk and wonder, "Is today the day that it's over? Am I going to have to tell my wife and family that I got cut?"

This is the most depressing company I've ever worked for. Everyone is in the same boat. Everyone is looking to jump ship, when an opportunity comes up.

Good luck everyone.

To worry causes stress, which causes tension and many other maladies. Don't focus on keeping a job that is thankless other than paying your bills. Instead, focus on a job that you can feel fulfilled at as a true contributor in order to contribute what you went to college for. Is there a Ass Kissing, Bootlicking, major in college? Well, if that's your major, and you can sleep at night at look yourself in the mirror in the morning Chris D. be happy, & congrats......... You made your position by throwing others under the bus to save your own worthless skin. Nice.

There's absolutely nothing to be wigged out about as fortune favors the prepared mind. If you have your s..t together you can ride out the storm either way, in or out, I did it, stress sold separately, severance not included.

There is life after MattHell, I know it. I'm living it.

Happy to say I am one of the layees and I am not going to worry myself to death. The fifteen years I spent pining for a position that would never come are over. I am going to take my experience and time elsewhere. Here's to new beginnings with a new company and position I will enjoy! Cheers everyone!

Jeez, people sure are wigged out around here today. Maybe some are too afraid that tomorrow they might be called into a office!

Per the last couple of comments, don't sweat it. It doesn't help, it just makes things worse. While there I witnessed countless layoffs, from the early 80's to today. "Fortune favors a prepared mind", so just lay chilly & keep on doing your best. I remember one huge layoff in the mid 80's that started early in the morning when I actually went to my manager at the time & told him. Hey, if I'm going just tell me now so I don't have to wait around like a dog. He told me I was OK. Decades later I had prepared my exit from that hell hole a year prior to punching out. Finances, kids college funds, new gym location, everything..........just made sure they showed me the money or I was gonna show them a lawsuit and they knew it. When it was no longer any fun, I was no longer there as life is too short to be miserable watching all the lazy no talent AKC members getting protected. Really glad I left when I did or I probably would have jumped over a table a strangled my worthless no talent credit stealing VP. Good luck to all with actual talent that still remains.

March layoffs are as regular as any holiday nowadays. sadly the severance present has been cost reduced to a pitiful amount. Unless you're upper management

never read this site around end of Feb. You'll just get anxiety as everyone shares theirs. No point worrying until it comes.

the signs that you're getting let go are usually: not being included in meetings or being consulted on the basic of decisions, not being asked to participate in off sites/brainstorms, being told you're not getting a bonus, your boss quickly turning off their monitor of shutting their laptop when you come by.

If you've done a good job and made the best decisions you felt were right then you should feel good about your performance. It's not always your fault if you get let go and believe me that time comes for all of us. Even for Evelyn. Sure I'm not comparing us to her because she probably got a sizable goodbye check while we all get a pittance. But you have nothing to be ashamed of when it comes. You'll find something else and you'll learn something new. And you'll go on living.

Safe to say that in the next month it will all hit the fan and this site will have an uptick in users. All the people who went silent when you lost your job will now be here looking to vent and sending you friends requests on social media. Show them the compassion that they didn't afford you. A little kindness goes a long way.

If lay offs are coming they should be around the corner before salary increases/bonuses if any. I believe the logic, if any, is to whack people before increases. The place has gotten so rotten so nothing really makes sense here, so who really knows anymore. All that's certain is that the people who should go, countless Directors & VPs & SVPs won't go. That will only happen if Hasbro buys this cesspool. No worries as the Q1 results/propaganda will lift all our spirits. Not :( So glad I left when I did...........

Curious! What is the attrition level since the great culling began? Does anyone know just how many people are left in EA and ES?

There really should be no reason for layoffs at this point unless it was politically motivated. I'm not pointing fingers in any one direction but I know many a VP and director level individuals who judge on the most superficial criteria and then look for ways to get a person released through poor reviews, baseless rumors, PIP, and negative speak behind a persons back. I see on a daily basis people below them being judged on Age, dress, and social standing. It's sad when hard work, drive and passion takes a back seat to such shallow methods of judging a person. It's this kind of middle school BS that drives our morale into the red.

It's tough when friends and family say they're jealous because we get to work on toys all day. Little do they know!!!!

This post makes me very, very sad. People shouldn't have to be in constant fear of losing their jobs. People should only be losing jobs because of poor performance, bad behavior, or if a company is in REAL financial trouble. Mattel always rushes to layoffs as a first resort when they get quarter results, which are never as dire as they would have you think. Then, they lay off an already lean team of people, who go off and train the competition. Depressing.

I was let go in 2014 and I felt like you too. Please trust me when I say that it'll be so much better when you leave. There is a ton of stuff out there, there are companies where people are just moderately crazy and there are managers and executives that nurture and protect people who work for them. It'll be hard for a few weeks and then something will come up and you'll feel energized again.

What's going on today, are they laying people off again? Who's hit this time?

If you're approaching 40 and you haven't made it to anything near upper management consider your head on the chopping block. There's no value in evergreen employees.
