Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Can anyone report on changes to store structures recently announced? Are there any changes? If so, what are they?

All ASMs and supervisors have been eliminated, the GM will now have to open/close everyday 7 days a week and work 13 hours a day. On top of that labor hours have been cut further and there will be no floor coverage and no backup registers. Corporate even considered eliminating the cashier position.

The (approximately) 1,000 stores in the "standard" sales band will get sufficient hours to staff every department with at least one associate each hour of business. They also will have a full-time operations supervisor position, which is a nice change for many of the formerly-understaffed Tier 4 stores. The best-performing 150 stores will retain their Tier 1/Tier 2 staffing, as far as I know, plus extra labor hours; the lowest-performing 150 stores just get the extra labor without an operations supervisor.

From what I understand so far, the tier / volume structure is changing from T1-T4 to High/Average/Low.

Stores that were formally T4 are getting extra payroll hours for a hourly supervisor position and some have expanded operating hours.

I do not have info on hours/staff changes for the average or high volume stores, but I do suspect that the Operations Manager position is at risk in all but the highest volume stores.
