Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Who SHOULD be next to go?

Ok, next round of layoffs is sure to be right around the corner. Who NEEDS to go? I'll start:

  1. Otis. Master of Bidness. Bidnessman. Cares about his career and his lunch above all else. One of the stupider leaders I've ever interacted with. Thinks he knows it all. One of the biggest reasons US Retail is dying. Yet keeps getting promoted??? Saw he treat the CPC associates in the #1 CPC volume store they they sucked. No compliments. Just berated them about how much they're leaving on the table. Tool.

I'd be willing to bet the vast majority of people that of had to deal with Servello , from subordinate to superior feel he is not qualified. He was demoted into the RVP role, they should of just canned him, but he probably has dirt on someone.

"What makes him not qualified to be a RVP? Your saying so?"

Region 1 is far worse off now then when he took it over after Madormo. Several good people have been driven out at Vinnie's direction, the rest see that no matter what they do, nothing is good enough.

He does not know how to talk to people, or motivate people. Never any positive feed back, just threats.

He does not know how to deal with customers. There are multiple accounts on this board and Reddit of Vinnie trying to demonstrate "great customer service" and creeping customers out or being so aggressive it drives customers away.

He jumps to conclusions and assumes the worst in most situations. Walked in a store to see an Ops Sup kneeling over a base shelf and trying to fix the planogram on it. Because they were kneeling he jumped to the gun and assumed they were screwing around. If he had come 15 minutes earlier and saw the mess a customer had left in that aisle he would of flipped out about that.

He micromanages to much - when "everything" is a priority, nothing is.

No common sense (or back to jumping to conclusions) - Walks into receiving area in a store that literally JUST received a truck and starts spouting invective about why the truck is not done yet.

A DM and several GMs quit at a meeting - not really the kind of behavior professionals would display unless they were pushed

Yep- if the goal is to make your regions worse off than when you took ever, be hated and to drive good people out of the company, Vinnie is qualified.

Vinnie is the worst! Even Vinnie's family (including his wife) have posted negative things about him on this and other sites.

Is this someone defending Vinnie Servello below? Hahahaha! I wonder who that can be?

Truth is that all these so called leaders are right where they belong - in a hopeless, failing company. No need for them to go anywhere else. No need for them to go ruin some other company. Please stay where you are. Please!

I do feel bad for the store staffs because they truly get mistreated. There are some good people out there who get no recognition and I wish the best to them.

I think Ron will finally be bounced or resign if the stock does not rebound and/or the buy out is finally nixed.

To many years of consistent decline under his watch and the only answer he has (besides the buyout) is closures and layoffs. The whole mess with the SDOs should be counted against him too, just to eager to cut lower end jobs rather than face that the problem is on the C level of Framingham.

Vinnie Servello.

This guy really needs to go. He wants to be Otis Jr. He acts just like him, nothing positive to say, ever. Rules by threats and bullying - that is not leading. He is also very stupid, yet he thinks he is smarter than anyone in the stores.

He came in on evening when we had 1 person in each department (no call outs, and scheduled as per DLP breakdown for that day) and the Ops sup closing. First thing he said is that we are to lightly staffed. He had a fit because there's no one on the floor in tech (on break) and O/S guy is helping a customer in furniture.

Then he went off about ink not being full. It was around 6:30pm -the cashier was boxing a carriage full of ink pulled from high ticket for the pull list and the tech was going to put it out when back from break. I gesture in the direction of the cashier and try to explain that it's being worked on, and he cut me off and said it should be on an ongoing thing all day.

Bottom line he is nasty person and is not qualified to be a RVP.
