This perfectly illustrates both the good and bad at COP. The "old farts" at COP, from what I experienced are pretty talented, and they are survivors. They worked through and survived many cycles and downturns. They must be given respect. The post by G3hH4bM-1lrq is obnoxious. This might be a downturn, but it might also be a paradigm shift. If prices stay low for a long time, as Ryan Lance, and many others are predicting, compensations will not be so insanely lucrative for much longer.

No wonder this company is going down. I came to look on my company's board and saw this. Wow!! you guys are more dysfunctional than we are.
I don't talk to nobodies. Thanks.
Hey pinhead! Why don't you tell Chris Barnhill what you think of Old Farts and see what happens, you wimp!
@2fpy, I did not say I had a "glorious life" , I said I've had a great life! One wonders what you are doing posting so late at night! Guess your Mother never told you only bad things happen to fools late at night! What can't sleep or are you pulling a late shift at Dunkin Donut? Look who is calling the kettle black posting 24/7, guess you are not that bright! Anyway get back on your treadmill so you can go nowhere fast!
@2poh "butthurt and do you want a cookie " is that all you have! We all know now why your career is in the crapper.
Now Cupcake since you asked, I'll have a sausage and biscuit with extra mustard and a medium regular coffee to go. Have nice day and enjoy your employment at McDonalds!
That's okay - the youngsters dont want to be kn a rig
The best mentors I've ever worked with are the "old farts" that started working on rigs with their fathers when they were about 10-years-old. Some had no more than a 7th grade education, but knew more about the business than any new college graduate I've ever come across. I'd rather have them at the helm when there is trouble any day of the week. Unfortunately, they are a rare breed now.
Any youngster who doesn't understand that shouldn't be on a rig.
bless your hearts???? Holy shit you must have been bullied hard as a kid.. goodness
@1xtk someone who lived a glorious life as you proclaimed wouldn't be spending 24/7 on an anonymous layoff board. OHHHHHHHHHHH
@1xtk you sound extremely butthurt, would you like a cookie?
It is a shame that ConocoPhillios does not have the culture to allow different people to work together. The result is buddies, favourites, bullying and discrimination. ConocoPhillios is a company defined by employees in fear even at $100 oil and managers that demand that 2+2=4 and not 5.
Is anyone else tired of the egos from these 'kids' from A&M, Tech, etc.? You don't know crap when you come out of school and join the real world. They should know there are other better schools out there where people actually get their degrees out of hard work and not from mommy and daddy buying a degree for them.
Envy and jealously is all you two (@1cyz, @1lrq) have to throw at me! Bless your hearts! Have accomplished nearly everything I set out to do some 40 years ago, still have a few item to do and the list is growing! Hope you can say the same thing when you two turn 60! Funny thing about hard work along with meeting and exceeding expectations, it generally has rewards! Something that has followed me all my career! Am I jealous and envy you millennials, not at all, I feel sorry that you missed out on life! Because I have had a great one! Again, bless your hearts as I know that you are on treadmill going no where fast!
Thumbs up to @1lrq's comment. Truer words cannot be said...
"Your deep rooted envy stems from the fact that you "worked so hard and started from the bottom" and wasted half your youth labouring away on some isolated rig whereas we got a head start by skipping that stage." Utterly wrecked.
lol jealousy is most definitely not coming from the side of the millennials.

Here are the facts, we are enjoying a lifestyle at our age you wouldn't even dream of when you were the same age. Sad how you flaunt your pensions and 401K's when you've been slaving away for the past 30 odd years whereas some of us barely have 5 years of working experience. When our time comes we will most likely have a nest egg far bigger than what you currently have - this is simply the result of a growth-oriented capital market. So stop comparing apples to oranges. This oil downturn is simply a bump in the road in a very long road.
We get it, we live a simpler, easier and more lavish lifestyle than you did when you were young. Your deep rooted envy stems from the fact that you "worked so hard and started from the bottom" and wasted half your youth labouring away on some isolated rig whereas we got a head start by skipping that stage.
Just remember, it was due to your hard work, technology and breakthrough innovations that created this new paradigm in the oil and gas business that enabled us young oil workers to live this way and get the head start. If you are mad and jealous at anyone, it should be yourself.
What a shame.
Jealousy will get you now where. 30 plus years here, can retire anytime I want too! But I will remain employeed to keep another ass hole like away. And if COP has another lay off, guess what ? I will still be here. Lol
G3hH4bM, perhaps some of the old farts may not capable of finding a new job, and snot nose young kids will not be capable of finding a job also! But at least a bunch of US old farts know that they (we) have built up pensions, 401K's, IRA's and built up bank accounts! What do you have? B As for me, I owe no one! I will manage and know what it was like to start at the bottom and then start over during the 80's something you May have to learn the hard way!
One thing young buck, I can still do Engineering or go to the rig and be supervisor! Don't count some of us down and out, because some of us will be available to fix young snot nose kids well problems! Just my two bits! Remember the oil industry did not start with you and will continue after you and I are no longer breathing!
