As far as I'm concerned this company can close any day now. Since the last round of layoffs in November this place has gotten worse internally. If the federal government allowed sweat shops, UOP would operate as one and deem it to be ethical. F--- setting any standards for the industry, throw that shit out the window. First off evaluate managers and directors. My manager in the QC is late every day and she is a fake ass bitch. She talks about being on time and discusses expectations yet she is late all the time, comes in looking like she stayed out partying all night probably getting high and drinking Celsius energy drinks. Must be hard to keep that fakeness all together. Evaluate the corporate culture that exists and use a third party to evaluate everything so there is no internal bias or favoritism. How my manager didn't get the boot when layoffs occurred is a mystery. She's f---ing worthless. Second: eliminate learning teams. People overall do not like having their grades impacted by the work or lack of it from other students. Third: lower tuition prices. A primarily online university should be lean operation. Fourth: heavily monitor enrollment reps, academic reps and financial reps. Have a third party monitor them as well. Higher ups will see where there are issues and WHO are creating issues. Fifth: explain WHY nursing programs are not offered online, and differentiate between human services programs and social work degrees cause UOP doesn't offer social work degrees. Do away with worthless degrees like psychology. The market for psychology degrees especially those without a clinical component are not in demand and it's a waste of time and money for students. Restructure the duration of classes, 5 weeks for a bachelors degree course is a laugh. Checking in a handful of times per week is ridiculous. Final point: quit digging for profits in ways that people in general dislike! Using third party Internet ads to target and contact potential students is messed up. Is UOP viewed as a leader? Not in a positive way. Start getting programs which are endorsed by big name corporations and have advertising that reflects such endorsements. Also, reentry is a joke. A majority of students whom haven't completed their degree program HERE have very little desire to do so and for good reason. Quit making headlines for bullshit, the media isn't around to pat UOP on the back and say "oh it turns out the company wasn't committing questionable acts, we're going to blast this news nationwide and make it known". Cause everyone knows that UOP has committed many questionable acts. Also, folks reading this quit referring to Greg Cappelli. He is the CEO of UOP's parent company Apollo Education Group. Tim Slottow is the CEO of UOP and he is running the show. Make sure you're throwing tomatoes at the right guy, although Cappelli deserves some of those tomatoes as he is currently allowing UOP to operate like a sub-standard taxi service. Get your shit together or close the f---er down! Quit making excuses and saying shit like "we're making changes for a better future". What changes? You mean changes that affect the bottom line and ease the impact of lost revenue. The people running this shit show are all criminals.

According to an AECCSS post-town hall FAQ document, we are now at 140,000 students. It seemed like when I first started working at UOP a couple years ago, management was boasting about enrollment being something around 300,000 (don't remember the exact numbers). What I find sad is how a school who has consistently had hundreds of thousands of students enrolled each year only has 1 million alumni.
If you are so miserable leave
So glad I don't work for the university anymore. Yes, the yelling by students, threats and awful managers were stressful along with good employees and managers being let go while the lazy jerks were still working there. But, I can't say it was all bad. I earned 2 degrees for basically free and both of which helped get me my current job that I love. Yes, contrary to popular belief their degrees actually do get you someplace. Granted I took a pay cut when I left the university but it was worth it - no stress. I work more hours but I am so much happier and the benefits are so much better. My advise is not to wait until the next round of layoffs...get your degree finished, update your resume and start seeing what is out there - temp agencies are great to start and right now, places are hiring. I get calls all the time to see if I am happy with my job since my field is in demand right now.
I agree with everything said in the first post. What pisses me off is that UOP spends so much money on marketing but doesn't seem to spend much on fixing the problems that their students experience. Apparently good ads and aggressive strategies to contact potential students and re-entry students is more important than quality education. Meanwhile those of us in the QC are stuck dealing with irate people who are mad that we've called multiple times a day. The target of making 40 attempts to reach a potential student in 10 days is absurd! Of course they kept having training classes every few weeks to replace the disgruntled employees who quit and then were way overstaffed when they implement their new marketing strategy and then they lay off a bunch of people in QC and enrollment. What's funny is I still talk to pissed off people who say that they were only looking for a job and that they put that request in months ago. Apparently the third party leads aren't completely out of our system yet. Oh and we can't call them "leads" anymore. That sounds too sales-focused. But calling them 4 times a day even when they've hung up multiple times isn't a sales technique, right?
I hope that some of the really good people who work here can get out as quickly as possible. I know a lot of people who hate this f---ing hellhole as much as I do but can't leave because they haven't gotten another job yet. Who knows what's going to happen with the next round of layoffs. I've noticed that program brocheres on the new phoenix.edu now have unique phone numbers for each of the colleges that say to "call to speak to your enrollment rep" . I really wouldn't be surprised if the whole QC was laid off.
So Cass is your manager? Why do you still work there then?
I completely agree!!! I submitted for the VSP but I was not selected. The job search continues and hopefully a job interview I have later in the week will pan out. I don't know why I've stayed as long as I have. I dread coming into work every day.
Glad I took the severance as well. UOP needs a lot of work, and they have the resources to turn it around. Let someone else buy it and fix this mess. They need completely new management who knows what they're doing to help their nearly 200k current students.
I'm so glad I took the buy out in November. I don't miss this shit at all, lol.
5 week classes are rip off to the students.
I agree - great post
Could you tell us how you really feel
