Thread regarding Wal-Mart Stores Inc. layoffs

Walmart Layoffs Will Not Solve Anything

To be clear - it's not the type of store, it's not Amazon, it's not type of merchandise, formats, layouts. The issue is in customer service and unless we fix customer service we'll not be able to be successful;. Cutting staff may not help with this, on the contrary it'll make things worse. Closing stores will not help, it'll just drag this on - we need to fix customer service and to become more customer-centric. We are ok on price but if most of our customers dread visiting the store (for whatever reason, but mostly customer service) - things will not improve...

Let's be frank here - most of our associates hate working here - for this or that reason, they feel undervalued, underpaid, overworked etc - and it radiates throughout Walmart - the quality of service has been dropping for decades, every next year is worse than the previous one - we need to do something about this, otherwise we will follow Kmart down the rabbit hole

"end of the growth cycle". Interesting. So you are saying that successful organizations grow, grow, grow, then stop, and contract-because they went too far and have too many offerings, I guess. In this business model what comes next?

Walmart doesn't have the talent in place to survive long term, but they have the girth to hang on and die a slow and painful death that we will all have to watch. The wealthiest stockholders will grasp for whatever dollars they can stuff in their coffers, while the middle class and working poor will be used and then disposed of as is deemed needed.

As far as the "experience", it happens whether you go there for it or not. The point is that the experience is either something that one wants to have again, or not have again. The question "who shops at Walmart for the 'experience'?" Certainly indicates Walmart gets low marks in that regard.

Wal-Mart is closing stores because they have too many. At some point every company experiences the end of the growth cycle.
