Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Ugh, time for TRACs, again

Another useless acronym that needs to go. Most of the time, these documents are not even read.

Correct, pull that ace out of your pocket and shove it up your managers ass.

I never spent more than 10 min max on stupid TRAC's, just change what what lines/brands you worked on & change accomplishments/time lines. If you get an unfair/unjust/trumped up review, DON'T sign it. Your reply is ," see you in HR & make sure you have everything documented & dated. All your recent accomplishments & have a rebuttal for the false accusations from your so called manager. If you SIGN it you are admitting that they are right & they will use the review to fire your ass. It happened to me at least 3 three times & I still survived. It's a poker game, but if you did all what you were supposed to do other than kiss your managers ass, you should be OK. Make them show you their cards, then you pull the ace out of your pocket.

When I was "retired", one thing, immediately, that made me smile was that I would never have to go through TRACS again. At least for some of us, TRACS time of year very stressful as we had to write them while we were very busy, and yet knew they really didn't mean anything. Best of luck to all who have to go through that exercise in futility!

It's evident when the tracs aren't up to snuff nowadays. There was a time when someone needing improvement in an area meant the manager/director would mentor and work with their direct report to bring them up to snuff because it was a reflection upon their leadership skills. Now the mentality is more akin to offering up a sacrificial lamb to save their own asses. I've heard from folks that were let go that their directors PROMISED to work with with them but then ignored them and let them fail and get cut. It's a poor reflection on the culture within Mattel and a prime example of why people are looking for greener pastures.

Or your manager puts zero effort into your TRAC and it's painfully obvious that you're earmarked in the next round. You can get a great review and that still doesn't protect you. And if you have problems with them avoiding you in the weeks leading up to the next round, that's bad too. Watch out for the backs stabbed too, they're plenty in those shark infested waters. Even people you think are close to you :) Not sure why they put people thru the song and dance of TRACs knowing this is they're fate, but I guess they're sadists. These decisions are made months ahead of time as was clear when I saw my severance paperwork was dated months before I was laid off. Happy TRACs everyone!

Or your manger will put some false things on them so when Lay offs come you get cut. You can put in your comments to respond to your managers comments but they don't care. This is how managers cover their family that work under them and there life long friends.

The trick is to read in between the lines of your directors TRACS, and echo what they've wrote so that you can succeed by following their path of managing up whilst failing at leading at the same time. I have kept my TRACS for the past few years that I've been with the company and each year my wife and I do a dramatic reading of each other's TRACS because they are so damn ridiculous.
