some news stories say the opportunity to transfer will be offered to employees of closing stores. What I'm hearing is the employee must quit, reapply and come back in with no status and at minimum wage. Doesn't sound like opportunity. Why wouldn't Kmart want to keep an experienced employee? It is a slap in the face. Is there any severance pay unless you are coded as fulltime? and could a 'rehired' employee take a job at another store by knocking out a fulltime person already there? does the 'offer to transfer' (by quit and rehire) negate unemployment eligibility? wish I knew, we're all wondering.

I've transferred/promoted stores 3 times over the past 3 years. I can tell you that quitting and being rehired is them nicely saying that they don't need you and are trying to keep people complacent. I believe severance will only apply to FT and Salary. Let them lay you off so you can collect unemployment if needed.
If you really could transfer they would have set it up for you via the internal gateway but you're right they could "hire" you back on at minimum wage which would be a classic Sears HC move.
I would consider this not to be an opportunity
I think that only a small number of people will be able to transfer - really, unless they have an opening nobody will be transferring and given that only select stores have small number of openings, that means that our chances of transferring are slim at best - I am looking for job right now, it's not bad out there and I was underpaid anyhow, so I do not mind to look elsewhere.
But, I am in my early 20s and I have no dependents, I know that many people need to keep health insurance and steady income, so it becomes much harder. God bless #yesitsucks
