Thread regarding Kmart layoffs

Old Fashion Retail is Dead!

Kmart was the Ross of the 70s they were closeout stores like zodys but face it walmart has direct deals with chinese manufacturing they don't need to rely on rejects from Macys they can get junk directly and pay almost nothing for it.

The jeans that used to wear out in 3 years now rip to shreds in six months and no one cares! The end wasn't a few years ago it started in 1981 when Reagan took control and got rid of all the unions and all the manufacturing went overseas.

Imagine downtown centers like Los Angeles and New York actually had garment districts where they actually made clothes there! My father worked for a printing company that printed their catalogs now it's just import and sell and people work at walmart or target for 10 an hour and qualify for food stamps and medical.

Reagan! really. Your blaming Reagan. No the reason American companies moved manufacturing overseas is because American consumers want cheap goods. Basic economics. When is the last time you paid more for an item because it was a quality good or manufactured in the USA?

It also comes down to a business needing to make MONEY! Share holders, retirement funds, boards of directors etc.. All want to make money! And you probably have a retirement fund invested in a business that used to employ American workers and manufactured in America, but when your fund (money) went down you or your retirement fund sold the stock of that company because the return (money) was less than a company who manufactured overseas.

Kmart/Sears went down because the owners of the company wanted to make money for their investors, stock holders, bond holders that had invested in their hedge funds, mutual funds, etc.

Just basic economics. Happens all the time. KMart/Sears goes down, Wal-mart, Target, J.C.Pennys, Marshalls, Ross etc go up. Compete or go home. Economics 101

We all knew this - but what to do in areas where there are no jobs offered and Kmart was the only option - that's the bad part, it's easy to say Kmart sucks but why dont you propose something constructive
