Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Mass Unemployment

Hi fellow Staples unemployed folks ! Well a little over 6 weeks and I received a notice that My check for the previous 6 weeks of unemployment is in the mail.. No denial, no appeal required... Here is your money ;-)

No explanation of why I got it or what the process was. I can only guess that they didn't fight it or DUI has caught on to the games Staples is playing and siding with the employees that have been let go and just giving us our money without having to play the games.. Not that I am not great full, just curios as to what the process was.

I was let go at a particularly tough time of year to be looking for work, Have had a few bits of interest but nothing has really gone into full swing yet that I can see. On line applications suck as you don't ever get to really sell yourself to an actual human being. You are competing against an algorithm in an application system that you have no idea how it 's weighted or what it's looking for. I have found that most systems don't want any middle of the road answers. You are either far right or far left. Remember that as you take assessment tests.

Anybody want to buy 440 shares of Staples stock for $12.00 a share ? The analyst are recommending to hold... I don't believe them. I think Staples is going to tank when the FTC gets done with them.... My opinion and gut feeling........

I still think all of us that were fired or forced out should band together and file a class action suit for wrongful termination. I don't have any connections with anyone who can make this happen. Do you ?

I currently have a lawyer working on a suit. A couple years ago I was diagnosed with stomach issues that were mostly caused by stress. The issues spread to liver and kidney functions. When I was fit to return to work I submitted all the forms and Dr. notes for reasonable accommodation (aka light duty). Due to the severe lack of payroll and unrealistic expectations I was forced to do heavy lifting, temperpedic chairs 20' up a standard ladder, to be put away on the top of the warehouse racking and similar tasks. I tried to get a ladder with the hand cranked lift but was told no. Because of the stomach / liver problems I was on meds that made me tired and irritable, I had no life outside work because I would have to lie down as soon as I got home. I should have filed for disability back then, I am in the process of that now. Lawfirm is handling both the Staples lawsuit and the SS/D case.

I know about a year or two a go a corp. insider posted Staples intent to use their current strategy to terminate "negative value assets" and some other derogatory term for unwanted employees. If those policies ever saw the light of day in writing or recording Staples would be in for a world of hurt.

In my case, I received good evals up until this year. The rate increase I received in 2014 brought me over $53k, including the mandatory 5 hours of OT written into the schedule. Shortly after I received that raise, almost every DM in my district and the areas immediately around it were fired or quit. My GM and SM suddenly quit. New DM and GM came in and instituted impossible standards given the lack of payroll. The trucks had to be done the same day they arrived, even if they came after 5pm. We had trucks on Xmas eve and New Years eve (in 2014) , both came late and we closed at 7. DM came in and stated they wanted the truck done, regardless. The ZBs were getting higher and higher. The IS and I came in early and stayed late. New SM stayed in the office 90% of the time when the GM was not working, running the store via the headset. When he was on the floor he was misleading customers and then denying what he said. When caught out, he'd blame one of the techs. Pull lists simply did not get done when SM was on. The only time there was payroll was Prime Time 11am-2pm. Not allowed to do tasks. Bottom line, I received a BS eval for 2014, then a PIP. I busted my ass trying to get things done with little help, while the asinine SM did nothing but lie to customers and sit in the office. They tried to block unemployment, but failed. The labor dept rep said the state knows all about Staples BS practices.
