Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

Cabelas Real Estate Development team Fired.

"The company on the hill "terminated their entire real estate development team yesterday (1/06/16).

The team of approx 11 individuals that were previously led by VP * *(who was also terminated in September) were responsible for the for the acquisition and development of property for future stores. So what does this mean?

If one were to speculate it could be a very solid indication that there are not going to be any future stores built.

I think the writing is on the wall on this one. Despite the company saying "how committed they are to Sidney", in the end that so called commitment simply will not matter.

I hate to see how it will devastate this town and it's economy but much of that is only to blame for the horrible city management. They spent all these years catering to one company and not working on bringing in more bossiness and now it’s going to bite them in the ass big time. Several years ago a company wanted to locate a warehouse here, but The Company on the Hill opposed it because it would take away from their own workforce. Greed and having their hand so far up the big C’s ass has doomed Sidney.

The rhetoric of “We’ll be fine” is complete BS. The company goes, this town goes. First the bigger businesses till it ripples all the way down to the Mom n Pop places.

So call City hall and thank them for those pretty walking trails, that big ass sign and a f---ing useless water park

I'm pretty sure we know the hammer is going to drop. This is a well deserved move for the City of Sidney. That corrupt wasteland deserves a humbling crash brought upon it. The town is absolutely filthy. The judges are corrupt assholes. The property values and taxes are inflated way beyond their worth. The rent-able properties are overpriced and many times doesn't even meet the legal requirements for safe housing, with no give-a-f---s to be found upon the people in charge of enforcing codes and laws. I heard before moving to Sidney what a wasteland it was, but after seeing it first-hand, I will say I welcome the crash of Cabela's. The idiotic landlords who have been allowed to make their wealth on the back of people moving into the community for opportunity at Cabela's will finally have to crawl back under their little rocks while they decide if their newly-emptied property is better off abandoned or torched to the ground. People say Sidney will be fine. People say it went from a population of 15,000 and survived. It may have survived, but it surly didn't thrive. Now with the loss of 2,000 employees, their spouses, and their children, this town will not stand a chance of regrowth. The corruption in that town between the city officials is disgusting, but instead of working for change families make the choice to pack up and move out without ever looking back. Goodbye, Sidney. I sit in anticipation of the hammer drop.

The real estate department was let go or downsized. The local news will not report about the layoffs. The uncertainiy is hurting businesses in town and morale. The low and middle income people are worried.Sidney is facing uncertsin future and is under a dark cloud.

I agree that Sidney catered to the business on the hill and gave them whatever they wanted-new middle school, pool, etc. I cannot predict what will happen but don't believe the political bs that the city will be find.
