Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

10 things, In my opinion

1.) Jim Mulva needs to be prosecuted. He screwed us with almost every decision he made and needs to be held accountable! If one makes that kind of money they shouldn’t get a free ride!

2.) Ryan Lance is an inexperienced leader but seems to be making decisions with forethought and might be ahead of the curve.

3.) ConocoPhillips calls itself an independent which is the equivalent of a whale calling itself a rabbit, the culture hasn’t changed, at all!

4.) Some but not all of the worthless ass kissers left will have their lips removed from management asses as the realization occurs that we are no longer making money despite of ourselves, and we are going to actually have to be hard working inventive bad ass’s to see the storm through.

5.) 13 rigs down to 3 will mean many contractors are laid off and a more employees too.

6.) ConocoPhillips knows that prices will turn at some point and to be at the forefront of that turn we have to have a machine ready to respond and capitalize. The people (left) are the company.

7.) The Saudi’s long term goal isn’t just to hurt the US shale industry, but to bring as many US companies to their knees as possible, and then step in at bankruptcy to purchase as many US assets as possible.

8.) The world has not yet developed economical sustainable green energy sources, oil is still king, at least for a while.

9.) ConocoPhillips will not go bankrupt, if you can stay employed through the downturn you have a bright future. The night is always darkest before dawn.

10.) There are an awful lot of negative assholes on this site that shouldn’t be posting. There are a few funny wisecrackers that make me laugh. Most of all, there are a lot of people just looking for answers for themselves and their family’s futures. Stop being negative assholes.

The management has treated a few employees exceptionally badly:

  • setting up employees

  • lying about performance

  • playing favorites to the extreme

They are keeping the majority happy by f^+*^% the few. Don't think it can't happen to you. You will be proactively removed from the company if there is a hint you have a personal situation that could affect performance even if it has had no impact.

Most of your points (except maybe #2 in my opinion - Lance could not manage his way out of wet paper bag) are good and well thought out, but #10 is not warranted. What do you expect, this is a layoff site? COP "management" has mistreated many people and people have a right to vent and be angry. In the end, COP management was neither good for investors or for the employees.

Know one cares about your 10 opinions.... The reality is all that happened in the past stop dwelling on it and move on.... The only real thing to understand and realize is that layoffs will take place every year from here on out. Cop however may not survive in a 25-30 dollar environment, nothing is economic and if nothing is economic then there are zero profits. Also ConocoPhillips got into unconventionals and most are not economic at these current prices and the percentage of assets which are is very small that they will not need the amount of people they currently have. Management and supervisors already know this a 3 rig program for a company that was worth 88 billion two years ago is very bad and cannot survive if 27 -30 dollar oil persist which it will. Inventories are not declining fast enough and worst of all demand is increasing but not as fast as we are producing it. Good luck mofos.

1) Mulva served the shareholders when he was CEO well. He did screw the long-term investors and employees. ConocoPhillips is a catfish - swallowing the crap from larger companies and turning it into something tasty. That's the model - it relies on high levels of financial accountability for each BU and a portfolio of different BU's to diversify. The ethics behind Mulva's methods don't sit well with me but that just indicates how bad a fit this company was for me.

2) ConocoPhillips needs an experienced leader.

3) ConocoPhillips is a catfish (see above) ... the corporate functions are not necessary in Mulva's model due to the way the BU's are managed.

4) Nope, ass kissing will continue to rule until there is one tallented individual able to kiss his own ass. The lack of accountability for performance, playing of favourites, reward for just staying a long time and lack of diversity are very negative aspects of the ConocoPhillips culture.

5) Independents staff for the work they have not for the future they mistakenly hope they achieve - a three rig program is a three rig program

6) The prospect of having an average realised oil price below $30 in the fall redeterminations is very real ... staffing for an upside case is for those with strong balance sheets and cashflow

7) The Saudi's want to increase market share and they don't care if it is from OPEC or non-OPEC members ... they are the bullies aspiring to be back at the top if the production rankings. Fool us for not realizing. They failed at increasing demand, we may get one more pop in prices before we all suffer another round from peak demand.

8) Public policy enacted based on climate change agreements is and will continue to be a real threat. We should engage with Obama to ensure that the future includes a transition from oil to renewables theough natural gas ... otherwise we will be the ostrich with our head in the sand getting f+^%*# while the green bus rides on by.

9) I would not be so sure about Bankruptcy ... it is not the base case but it is a possibility. The future of ConocoPhillips is not bright ... the financial capacity to pick up assets on the cheap is not and there and our model is to be the catfish.

10) "... negative asshole" - enough said
