Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Any word on US store positions that might be cut?

What store positions will be next to go this year? Last year it was team supervisors who's next? Tech supervisors, Sales managers, inventory supervisors, operations supervisors, CPC supervisors, operations managers? it seems like every year I have to be worried about the next position to be cut, it would be nice to feel like I have some bit of job security.

"This leaves a large gap in the path to GMs"

I had an exec on a store visit tell me once that he could get a bum off the street to run a store better than most GMs do. They obviously do not care about a GM pipeline with all the store closures and the layoffs.

Some of the LP guys could be redirected back to stores, but I vet they'd have problems with the work schedule.

You work at Staples - the whole company is in deep shit. I really did not see the whole LP layoff coming. There is NO job security, anywhere in this company. Even if you are in a "safe" position, like GM, they can still go after you regardless of you performance, simply because you make to much. Or they can simply decide to close your store.

Start sending out resumes now.

My best guess would be Ops managers in T1-T2 stores, then IAs/IS then tech sup. It's really a shame though because most SM's I know are lazy and know little about operations. Ops sups are just underpaid OMs, attracting less experienced people to the position. This leaves a large gap in the path to GMs.
