Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

DWEP - the cat is out of the bag ... ESP

During this afternoon Thurston announced that all 950+ DWEP employees will be notified at 4 PM whether they are in scope or out of scope and sure enough by 4 PM that e-mail arrived.

50% of positions are open

28% of employees (blue badge) will be reduced

60% of contractors (green badge) will be reduced

Positions will be posted March 7 - 11 and employees will need to apply for their job and a couple more.

Everyone in will be notified during the first week of April whether they are left standing.

All contractors jobs will be open and on the market. If they can not be filled with an employee that meets the requirement then the contractor will stay. The goal is to keep an employees but obviously not all people are interchangeable so hope you have a very specific role that can not be filled by Simone else. This is the case for employee and contractor.

Oh and why the divide because employees for the same position make $600 day and a contractor makes $2200. That's why they cut contractor first.

Of course not ALL contractors but a lot of them will be. The distinction between green and blue badges is the employee relationship and the fact that contractors are meant to be used as workforce augmentation and are not permanent positions.

It's not me; it's my husband. I'm scared and worried; therefore, I'm searching for honest true information. In this post, the OP stated:

28% of blue badges will be reduced (and)

60% of green badges.

I don't know why there has to be a great divide...green vs. blue. We all have families, and I have sincere compassion for every person this is affecting no matter what color their badge is. I feel for all the workers, their wives, and children. I'm praying for us ALL.

Given the numbers in this post, it does not state that every contractor will be let go.

Does anyone else know if the information about every contractor being let go in the last comment is truth. Thank you for any and all for sharing what you know.

You really think that employees aren't going to be placed into "contractor" roles of possible?

Unless you are a contractor with a very specific skill set that is not easily replaced, you are gone and it is a hell of a lot cheaper to cut you than an employee. If you are a contractor chevron could cut you tomorrow and be done with it, but they'll give you 2 weeks notice. An employee will get 2 months on payroll then 2 weeks per year of service plus 6 months of medical at employee rates.

This is the first I hear of EVERY contractor being in-scope.

If you are a contractor your job is on the line.

Does anyone know how contractors would know if their job is on the line?

In DWEP everyone who was in scope and everyone who was out of scope got an email. It told you your status.

To my knowledge contractors did not get an email

Would this have been sent to only employees or contractors as well?

The email was sent only to employees who are 'Out of Scope'. Congrats if you received this coveted email. You have a guaranteed job (this time around).

Was the email sent to those in-scope or out of scope?

Have all of the in-scope employees and contractors in DWEP been told yet? Meaning, are they still waiting to notify that some are in-scope?

Notifications at MCBU have started as well. Supervisors have been having one-on-one conversations. A note from The ESP group next week with further information. We have been told as well that postings will start March 7. MCBU is expecting 40% cuts.

So, has everyone that is "in-scope" within DWEP been notified?

They got major management issues in DWEP D&C. Instead of improving the atmosphere has been cut throat and ugly. I work in DWEP as a FDE and all I can say is that John is a power control idiot that can't stick to one decision.

-ibl. It's all of DWEP. Field personnel is not excluded. I remember when I worked for a indipendent there was one to two company people on a major drill rig not the LDSM, day DSM, night DSM, dispatcher day, dispatcher night, HES rep, 3 day FDE, 2 night FDE, and a BOP rep (even though we don't own them or maintain them). Not to mention if we are completing we add some completion engineers and some intervention engineers.

We might want to rethink how we do things and how many people it takes in the field. I am not trying to pick on our field staff only we have too many people in the office too. We don't need 3-4 office drilling/completion engineers per well or 6-8 intervention engineers per field. Dang sure don't need a office BOP engineer per rig either. Just my 2 cents.

Is this 50% number of open positions for DWEP support staff only or does it include offshore personnel too?

VXB - Don't dwell on it. CVX is breaking apart because of bad decisions made by inept, corrupt managers and SMEs who survived wave after wave of ROMs and RIFs because they were hired, ranked and promoted by relatives and friends years ago. The system worked for decades, because Chevron kept growing due to fire sale acquisitions and mergers. The inner circle culled headcount by destroying smart, hard workers who were outsiders. Now the vultures are circling.

Wow EMN,, that thought is actually quite liberating. My boss was a total a$$ during our ROM last year.

It feels good to think of what you're saying.

The whole process is a game... They know who is staying and who is leaving. They have process 8000 jobs according to Thurston by just one week... I feel sorry for myself that I wasted my time in this company

Instead of putting the cat back in the bag, why don't we put as many members of management in the bag and beat the hell out of it so they don't come back out.
