US Online: $1.96 Billion

US Contract (SA): $5.74 Billion

Total US: $12.78 Billion

Staples Advantage (Corporate Express) is keeping Staples US alive, and is bigger than the Retail business?!. The online business is also not doing so well and is largely insignificant, especially as Amazon and other competitors continue to gobble up market share. The mass layoff of Loss Prevention personnel across and down the board would suggest that the Retail business units are being left to die a slow death. Staples Canada seems to be okay and/or thriving for now, while the international business units are staring at red ink.

Let's not kid ourselves: THIS LOOKS LIKE A DISH BEING SERVED FOR A BUYOUT BY AMAZON. Like a fly being eaten by an elephant.

Yes, they are correct, and indicative of a linear trend the past few years that has seen the share price and market capitalization (how much the company is worth) decrease by half. Consider that the total sales used to be above 23 billion per year in the US alone, and now they are about half of that, which matches well with the market cap and share price. Now, remember that Staples is known to have a horde of cash reserves, somewhat significantly greater than its outstanding debt, and this is what has kept it afloat for a number of years (as well as decreasing head count systematically, of course).

Are these number right? If so, not including International, sales would have dropped 7 billion year over year.

I'm sure Ron, Shira and Otis are already planning how to get away with taking their bonuses and deny everyone else.

Pretty much as I have said all along. Retarded Martians had enough smarts to know .com was NOT the answer with Amazon doing it right. I'm still saying spls about $5.00 by late April. Love to know how those numbers got leaked :-)
