Expats. Are they sending them all home?

Why is CNAEP bringing home 1,500 ex pats. Are all of the expats currently in DWEP, SJVBU, GOMBU, CBU and MCBU going to be sent home so that we can make room for the return US payroll folks?

I am an expat in DWEP I know of several ex pats that have already been repatriated. I have not heard anything about getting sent home or having to post yet. Hopefully I can stay as my visa does not expire this year and way just renewed. I hope I can stay even with the US ex pats coming back in to the organization.

Not as easy sending back expats to home countries from the U.S. Many are governed under their countries labor laws and are under "contract". They do make 3x as much and get private schools, nice housing allowances. Just like the US expats. Bonus for many is living in the U.S. and not a 3rd world country. The U.S. expats are coming home and the majors will loose their job. They will compete for jobs in anew ESP that will have very few opportunities for all of us. I consider 3 employees great friends. We started together in Houston. One is in Canada and he is on the outside looking in with the cuts just announced there, one is in AMBU which will NOJV their work and keep a few dozen people with no plan of asset development for 2-3 years and the other is at GOM.. there is no hiding, this will be the end for many.

Expats are typically on 3 to 4 year developmental assignments and they typically cost company 2 or 3 times more than a non expat. It is done during good times so that the organization develops OC on a long term basis. It is very presumptuous and arrogant of some posters to say that they are there because they are better than nonexpats. In times of serious cash crunch like this, organization has to optimize the resources and look for ways to get quick paybacks on investment, which means minimizing the number of expats. Good luck.

not all foreign ex-pats will be returned to their countries of origin, but most will be. CVX needs to make room for the US payroll ex-pats returning to the U.S.A. The best workers may not be selected for the positions in the ESP, but like it or not, that's the way it will be.

Race and national origin shouldn't matter. Everyone will be treated in keeping with equal opportunity laws. Chevron is a bluechip public company.

Same criteria will apply to US expts and non US expats. Non US expats will compete for jobs in their home country just as returning US expats will compete for jobs in US. That is the reality.

Sorry I disagree. I working with a number of nonUS employees, and they are some of the best in our group. If you can't step up and compete then you shouldn't get the job.

That should be the idea. Many of those working as expats in US will become must-moves making room for returning expats.
