Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

So Watson quickly dropped a bomb about a salary freeze and quickly continued his speech...

But what does that mean? I'm assuming the PSGs will remain flat for 2016 but we will still receive merit increases based on rankings. That is what Shellenbarger seem to imply when he visited SJVBU. And yes, I'm assuming on still on the payroll April 22 to see the bump.

I am retired yet follow the posts. If anything like the past freeze means no raise. Hiring freeze means just that also. As someone posted, we went years without any raise. I recall once I was even promoted and relocated with no increase as my salary was already in the new PSG. Slowly they lossened up and you got a little and all contractors had to be on org charts unless it was a service contractor like HAL. God bless all of you. The lord will not let you down.

Even with a salary freeze and CO not changing, there will be minimal salary action for some due to promotions in and out of PSGs. Most people won't see it.

What's scarey is that people are freaked out over a salary freeze because they feel they cannot personally manage the financial challenges. These are the same people that Chevron is expecting to find greater efficiencies and live within the new means. I look at people today and we're a bunch of damn wimps compared to those generations before us or those who have survived/escaped regions of conflict.

Grow a pair and cut bait with the things in your life you wasted money on when oil was over $100.

No raise. And Watson can say what he wants. 30 bucks oil at end of year salary cut. They will be forced to. And if we don't like it where are we going?

in the 1980s downturn, most people went 3-4 years with no raise and damn happy to have a paycheck.

Salaries have to balance to CO (Competitive Objective), but if the salary structure stays the same, there's no minimal movement. Salary freeze means just that, no change!

Do you really expect much in the way of raises when we lose $580 million and have to borrow the capex budget and/or dividend? Expect raises in the tenths of percent, if there are any at all. I wonder if the petrotech supplement instituted a few years ago will get reduced or eliminated this year, resulting in a pay cut for technical staff. Let's face it, for the next few years, you're working for your job, not your raise. With luck, these tough times won't last long.

Still have to balance to C.O. so there will be very very minimal movement.
