Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Estimated last day if left standing after ESP?

Will that be April 1 or April 15 or some other date? Could anyone who has gone through the process chip in?

State of Louisiana received the WARN notice on Friday, Feb. 5th. So there is the 60 day notice, the process is starting....

The new organization officially starts on the April 16th paycheck. The people who are offered jobs in the new organization will be contacted on Monday, April 4th. They have 24 hours to accept their new jobs. The process for the people left standing will start on Wednesday, April 6th and/or Thursday, April, 7th. Good luck to all who are in scope for the ESP!

"Perm the WARN law, for a certain percentage of layoffs, companies HAVE to give you two months notice, except, you'll be home for those two months; consider this as a paid vacation. Either way, once you go home, they'll keep you on payroll for two additional months."

I have heard these magical 2 months swirling around too but I am not sure it is true. Since they are determining the final numbers by the end of next week, they will have enough information to inform the states for WARN.

I would love to stay home with 2 more months of pay since there are no jobs out there anyway. That way you can work on your resume, networking, training and job search, etc. while still getting paid.

Note: You will not be able to collect unemployment until after 60 days but that is good since your pay should be higher than unemployment and it will push out unemployment by 2 months, so if you are officially off the payroll by June 1st you can collect until November,

Oua, did you have to report back to the job after that 2 month paid vacation? Or they just mailed you the checks?

Pretty much the same for me as the below two posts. Nobody was walked off by security or anyone from HR that I know of. I was told I could stay till the end of the week (it was a Wednesday) but I basically told my Super that I had important relaxation to do and would like to get started on my two months paid vacation. Got my vacation paid two months later, severance two weeks after that and started my new Project Engineering job two weeks after that. My retirement account is currently being transferred over (not the 401K one, the other one) so that is taking longer than expected, but altogether a sweet deal. Fresh start, enjoying my job. Chevron even gave me a good relocation and sold my house for me. If I get a severance package like that again, Ill be able to retire.

Like NVZ stated, it depends on your BU, and I'd go further and say that it also depends on your manager AND your circumstance.

In pretty much all cases I heard, the BU's reserve a conference room to tell you the bad news (note: if it's good news, most likely they'll let you know via phone call or email)

I heard of some BU's that would walk people to their office to get their personals, and walked off. In my BU we were given a week after the bad news, to collect our belongings, transition your tasks, etc. on my last day, I met with the manager to turn in the laptop, badges, phone, etc.

so this might be the 'extra week' NVZ is talking about.

Perm the WARN law, for a certain percentage of layoffs, companies HAVE to give you two months notice, except, you'll be home for those two months; consider this as a paid vacation. So for example, if they tell you on April 1st that you were left standing, you could either 1- be walked off that day, or 2- be given a week to collect/back up stuff/transition, etc.

Either way, once you go home, they'll keep you on payroll for two additional months.

It is at the end of these two months that you will truly be unemployed; they'll send you your unused vacation, and your severance letter.

The caviat here is: do they have to comply with WARN?

I was let go in October, got a week to collect my stuff, went home and got pay checks until December, at which point I got my unused vacation; got my severance letter, which I signed immediately; couple weeks later got my severance. Been home since October and been receiving moola since.

I may start looking for a job in the summer. All is good. Probably been more productive than anyone still left in the company, where, let's be honest, morale must be down the gutter, hence production is down the sewage.

In 2015, it was up to the BU to decide the last day for individuals in their unit. I know people who volunteered to leave and some where on the books until 11/20 while others were on the books until the end of Dec. The difference was they were in different BUs. On occasion it depends on the circumstances of an individual. I know one guy who has 30 plus years of field mechanical skills, tough to replace. He was told he was sticking around until spring 2016. Nobody in HR or management will share that there's differences between BUs because they don't want to have to explain themselves. Its a tough spot for them as well. But it can mean the difference between 1 or 2 extra pay checks typically so my advice is to keep asking the question of your management and HR BEFORE "telling day" so you know where you stand. And raise the point that last year there were differences between BUs that put extra paychecks in people's pockets. If you came up short, wouldn't you want to know why? Believe me. Applying pressure by asking questions to force HR and ma decisions for your BU will

Chevron has not notified the affected BU state under the WARN act yet. They have not, because they have to give exact numbers for each BU. I just looked at CA, TX, LA, PA.....no notice. So it is at least April 4. Chevron did not want to release numbers until org chart comes out....some BU's will be nearly stripped bare (If Asset Development is doing nothing the BU in done). But once they release the chart the WARN notifications will concurrently be filed.
