Start with the gym. Oh no! Not the gym! You know, the place where all the CHK employees go to sweat and get distracted from their work for awhile, mostly during lunch time of course. They must work out hard, because most of the time they come back to work still in their workout clothes. This is actually a violation of CHK dress code, but who cares right? Trust me, getting rid of that gym would be the first step in selling UNNECESSARY assets and would also get employees to actually focus for once. Haven't CHK employees been spoiled long enough? Hell, they don't even have to pay dues! At CHK, as long as you're good looking, you're hired! Oh, and close the four restaurants, the food sucks.

This has been on my mind for a while and I finally wanted to post after reading some of the responses.
Two words: smug assholes.
As a service company engineer who had to deal with these pricks in the field on a daily basis, I found it amusing that this company even existed as long as it did. Some of the folks I had to work with literally did not know shit about a what went down on a completion operation. So much damn hand holding was necessary you would think CHK ran a f'ing day care up there when we were in Southern Oklahoma. Stupid ass company men too. We would tell em not to do shit and guess what, they didn't ever listen.
All we did was laugh behind your back when you left the frac van. I can honestly say after spending 3 years in Oklahoma before returning back to Texas, I am not surprised they have to sell everything. The problem is twofold now: nobody wants your shitty low grade assets that cost too much to develop, and even the high grade good assets have no buyers for the time being.
Until next time, I will enjoy the upcoming OKC disaster movie from Houston. All the while working at my little shitty service company job. PS: We don't have any debt and already had layoffs so I'm sure we'll be around for the next shit storm.
Amen! Don't forget every Sunday the full page ad in the Oklahoman business section showing all the young, inexperienced "pretty people" who were hired that week. The only ones with any real experience were older, engineers.
I remember being at Republic many times, overhearing conversations from many of these assholes, talking about their new 5000 sqft homes being built in Edmond, the new 27ft boat, the new cars, the new Harleys, the new pools, etc., etc. Spend, spend, spend... look at me!!!! Could not believe those attitudes. All the while I'm thinking you folks better wise up, because when it crashes you will lose it all.
The smug, holier than thou attitudes in the field that said, "I work for Chesapeake so get the hell outta my way!". Saw the same thing happened in the 80s and you wonder why all the hate for CHK. Now it's karma time. Thank god I got out when I did. Enjoy!

Don't worry, once you're good and laid off, you will be saying all the same things. So how many hours you been in that gym today? Getting any work done? ;)

Really....I worked there 8 years....started at the bottom....worked my way up.....watched all the little thirty something OU grads come rolling in each year with signing bonuses of multiple thousands and starting salaries higher than mine after 17years experience.....
Watched the 30 somethings enter the office most days around 8:20 with their breakfast from the Cat and eat it while answering text messages then around 9 begin working only to leave for lunch work out at 11:40 to come back at 1pm and toting yet another meal to eat....repeat morning schedule....at least when I worked there they came back showered and dressed in business attire....
Then along 4:45....was time for them to go to some function in society that got them photoed in the latest rag......wow.....they worked so very hard...
I got dissed by my boss....JOE...fur coat wearing prick or a liar.....for not setting a good example for the younger employee because I left for lunch work out at 11:45 and was back by one showed in business attire and had eaten lunch after being there at 7 a.m. and working most days til 5:30 min.....
What a joke.....not to mention all the blonde bimbets that AKM hired so they could be eye candy and do nothing.....
Jesus....so glad I am gone from that shit hole of a so called Forbes top 100 company and all the stupid computer messages from management each morning that I had to view before I could actually log in to do real work....
To funny...an insane experience I am grateful for....but what a joke....so yep...the contract rep is telling it like it is......and I was a full time employee that drank the AKM koolaide and got burned....oops....MY BAD

Chesapeake actually paid entry level hires 25% or more less than market to compensate for the corporate largesse back in the AKM days. But you probably haven't worked here before so you wouldn't know that.
I used to work at CHK as well and yes people do start at the bottom there. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about and have some kind of stick up your ass. Without CHK, I wouldn't have the experience that I needed to move up in my current position at the company I work for now.
Oh my God, you totally did not understand what I meant by dues. I was referring to having to starting at the bottom and moving your way up. But if you're a CHK employee, I certainly wouldn't expect you to understand. And yes, I worked for your company for a short while in the accounting department and disgusted by all the spoiled children. Good luck with your job, may not last forever, just saying, ;)

You clearly have never met anyone that actually works at CHK. Dues are paid every month for the gym, and those dues are comparable to every gym in OKC. Yes, some people abuse this privilege by taking extra time at lunch, but most go either before or after work as a stress reliever. It's been clinically proven that exercise leads to more energy, which in turn leads to more productive employees. Sorry to rain on your "CHK employees deserve nothing" parade.
