Forced Rankings!

 Forced ranking creates a hyper-competitive environment and destroys teamwork. (It doesn’t. And if “teamwork” is used as one of the ranking criteria, this concern vanishes completely.)

 Forced ranking judgments are inherently subjective and thus biased and wrong. (Forced ranking forces decision-making out into the open where solid, data-based decisions can be made.)

Forced Ranking the cancer within.

I regard myself as a hard working ‘star’..I work as part of a small TEAM full of Stars…But under forced Ranking my Manager can only award 1 star…This causes resentment, reduces knowledge share, destroys team work, we are all out for ourselves…the company suffers BIG time.

When forced ranking emphasises relative perfomance and therefore subconsciously instills an incentive to be better than any other in the team, the overriding behaviour is to pull others down in all criteria, including teamwork. If teamwork is one of the criteria, one needs only to be that much clever to still withhold or selectively participate in a team play to pull others down. It will not be easy for a manager to detect who is to be faulted for the missing team play.
