Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What does "in scope " mean? The position is being eliminated? How will people be notified? Via email? Face to face meeting?

Sounds like the game of Musical Chairs. Those left standing, leave the game and the tune starts playing again until the CEO is the only one left.

"In scope" means we are part of the pool of employees that can potentially be laid off. I think we are all being notified via email but I'm not 100% sure. Once we are identified as "in scope" we can apply to open positions. The open positions are positions that all the other "in scope" employees currently hold. We can apply to our own and probably one or two more but those details have not been given to us yet. Some positions will not be back-filled. So, there will be more employees during the process than jobs to be filled. If we are not successful at getting our own position back, or another position, then we will be "left standing" which means we will involuntarily be laid off. Some employees will not be "in scope" as they have been deemed crucial to business continuity. People are very stressed, and some of them are very angry and bitter. We all just want it to be over.
