The moment the FTC decision is final the second shoe will drop. As I have said before this next wave will be much larger than the first, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT, no matter which way the decision goes stores will be closed. The only difference will be some stores will be spared by a decision that allows the merger, but others will be closed by that same decision... I predict a Staples of under 450 stores by 2018.

Ron saw his bonuses go down and then every decision was geared towards increasing them.

Marino u r a F---ing Idiot!!!
Marino, Staples is dead because they decided to do the opposite of what you suggest. They purposely decided to do so out of greed. They have no interest in customers, employees, or ethics. Yes, they were once a strong company and then went in the wrong direction. So no, Marino, they are not great... they WERE great. Goodbye Staples and shame on you.
I feel Staples is a great store. Not dying ,
You should not do so much mirco managing. Managers dont have time for that.
You have solid products to offer. All that is needed is for staple as a whole is to believe in what they say.
Customers Service!
Its not hard. If you create a work environment that is fare you will regain the trust and respect of your employees.
In turn that reflection of respect will create
a productive sells force.
Congrats Otis - you inherited the kingdom - a dying one, that you helped make that way.
I would agree, and further cuts beyond that. The problem in stores right now is it is impossible to get anything done. The minimal amount of payroll given is not enough to assist customers (the priority) and perform tasks.
There will be no quality of life for store managers. The lack of bonuses and Otis' propensity to drive away higher paid experienced managers will drive people away and save on severance. Basically it will be increasingly undesirable to work in Staples stores. The pressure and stress will just increase and the pay and benefits will decrease. This will simply be yet another level of the death spiral Staples retail is in.
