@FCcYu38-1nrw - sorry for your situation - it is BS.

"i still do not have a reason or understand how the choices were made. "

It is all about the money. You , at 14 yrs, or the newbie at 14 months. Cheaper to keep the newb.

I had over 10 years, all good evals. Last year I broke $55k Next thing I know I am being rided constantly and undermined. Pull lists not being done when I am not there, then I get a write up for a bad ZB walk on a Monday when I was off Sat night, Sunday and Monday? Pip came and there was no chance to get off it. No staff and when I hired / scheduled extra people to get things done, they were pulled for other "priorities".

Staples is a shitty company and you are better off. You may not think so now, it will come around

i was one of the many that was laid off today. i have been with the company for almost 14 years. my manager called me and literally read from a script exactly what to say. then she dropped off of the call for HR to finish the discussion. i still do not have a reason or understand how the choices were made. i am a Project Manager and they have hired new Project Managers as recent as November and they were not part of the cut. Its bullshit!

Instead of pushing for the merger, Starboard should have pushed for the resignation of Ron and Shira. Under their rule, the company has done nothing but maintain a downward slide. Their entire business plan is "How can we do this cheaper?" There's no innovation in the company, no trying to figure out how to drive more customers in the store, just the assumption that if the company costs less to run, they will make more money. All they are doing is driving the company closer and closer to bankruptcy. Anyone who had any part in the decision to pay Office Depot $250M if the merger does not happen should be immediately terminated with all loss of future benefits. When they collapse under their own weight, it will be a loss, but one caused solely by poor decision making and outdated business models.

Doody gone? Neil, Doody's heir apparent, has to be shitting bricks. Glad to see it happen.

Saw this too:

“We are streamlining the organization and building a simplified structure that will speed decision-making and enable us to focus on driving profitable growth,” said Ron Sargent, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “These changes will help us compete in a rapidly evolving marketplace, either as a standalone company or in combination with Office Depot.”

How many times can they possibly streamline to speed decision-making? Everything was taken out of the fields hands over the years. Can't even issue a flipping credit over a certain amount without approval, even though the customer is owed it.

"hmmm... something smells rotten" Yes, no mention of the layoffs.

Ouch ....John Burke is gone ? The "culture officer" of a toxic, malicious, unethical company is let go? Karma.

The layoffs weren't large in numbers the big names are Demos, Doody, and Burke. Shira will take over all of NA operations (commercial and retail). Rumor has it the board has a CEO vote of confidence coming up. should be interesting.

There were about 150 people let go from corp today. If you didn't hear from your director or higher you're fine for now. sadly there were some good people on that list. Some from every level though from coordinators and analysts to managers directors and vps.

I can confirm... it was about 500 people from every team in the company. Not just the big names, a whole lot of little names unfortunately. Lots of rumors, even at the end of the day, we don't know who is safe or not. Horrible day to be at work.

Not sad to see Demos Parneros go, but it is fairly obvious he is the sacrificial goat. Word is many SVPs were hit and that this frees up a lot of shares of stock

"Demos, Joe Doody " Wow. about time, but to little to late. So Otis is in charge of retail now?

Sorry to all those affected, I expect the ones that need to go still have positions. Have to make cuts to appease the shareholders so they don't go for Ron. I bet he was not even in the office today for fair of reprisal.

They really can't continue to make payroll cut's at stores and expect customers to keep shopping there. Staples stores are becoming more of a customer service cliché than Walmart.

Any word on how many layoffs there were?

confirmed that some big names got hit today ( Demos, Joe Doody) from the top of the pile. I think they need to go a little higher and hit Shira and Ron and then head down the line with some of the VPs. The Staples IT team has been outsourced and they brought in an Ex team from IHG that had almost ruined them (so why not bring them all in to Staples) and screw them more.

They need to bring back a strong board, drop the OD bid and refocus on the Commercial accounts with a smaller commercial retail foot print that can service regular customers.

There's the extra cash to pay for another three months of what promises to be a failed merger attempt! You all in corporate who got canned, I'm sorry to hear, I'm sure some good people got let go and Ron's clueless minions get to stay.

This is happening. Almost everybody has been required to meet with their director or VP for some time today, but everyone has been quiet about the outcome. This was handled very poorly.

There is truth to this, though I am not sure how many.
