Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Best and brightest?

Quality Communications. Well known for rigorous screening and difficult programming questions at interview time. Workforce: hot shot young guns to expert-level salty dogs. Still true? Was it ever so? Your comments appreciated.

In today's QC, there is no room for the smart and the bright. There is only room for the obedient slave. Dare any of you voice an opinion different from his leads' point of view? Or even discuss a different approach from that proposed by the leads? Haha good luck with that. This applies to all levels BTW

We use to have the hiring standards which Google has now. It's not sustainable as Google will find out in their future.

HR is as much to blame as anyone, their stamp of approval was all over the corrupt hiring practices.

The mgmt. is crap. The interview process is irrelevant because the mgmt is crap.

My first Qualcomm interview was a 5 hour grilling with 5 different engineers across multiple disciplines.

I guarantee you most of the people I work with today would not have passed that interview.

Qualcomm made a few big mistakes, the biggest was letting go of and not replacing its brilliant people and not fostering that amazing attitude that used to pervade the campus. Now it's just lazy old rest and vest zombies and pushbutton slaves. It's not the crew to invent the next CDMA and save the company. They all retired or left for greener fields.

Was there ever a time when all employees were the "best and brightest?" Never. But there definitely were a few standouts. Most of those were pushed out during the last RIF, or quit earlier in disgust.
