I guess some of you were born at age 30+ ? And knew all there was to know from day one?

Why hit so hard on these young folks. Doubtless, coming out of school, we appeared the same to our older generation.

For what it's worth, Anadarko hired some the best petroleum engineering students from my graduating class. This was a few years ago. These are guys that spent 100 hours a week in the library. Sometimes they slept there. Some of them had pervious industry expirence. They were competitive and hungry for success but I never saw any of these people as "entitled." They were always willing to put the work in.

Let's be specific and talk Houston. The ignorance of the under 30 non Texas grads need work specifically. The look at me on Facebook and wasted office time on site non related to work and they continue to bitch about how hard they/she works. Come on management use the IT department to get rid of these slackers. Also might consider looking at how much time they spend on their personal emails at the office.

I agree with the comments that the "children are our future" - but hasn't that always been true? I also agree that these young engineers are taught more, and have more tools (technology based) then we did. But we still work in a world where there is a need for collaboration and cooperation. To accomplish both of these individuals need to be able to "get along". It is a shame that most of these young engineers are so effin arrogant and self centered that they fail to realize this. Eventually it will catch up to them, and they will have no idea what happened. But it'll sound more like "Why didn't I get a promotion?", "Why didn't I get that job?"

Do you know any under 30 women engineers? One in particular smiles as she talks about us in the office, how do I know; a few of the "older" women have been privy to her comments.

Just watch your back .

I am 55+ and personally glad to still have a job. Most of the young workers I have dealt with are pretty polite, and this is on the Geo and Engineering side as well as many other positions. Before you get on them to hard think back when you were coming up. It was a different time and some of our managers ruled by being bullies. When I worked on the rigs I had to buy favors all the time. When I screwed up many times I was called out, and it did not matter who was around. It made me a better worker, but in the end it felt more like being bullied than being taught something. These young people are our future, and they will do just as well as we did if not better with the technology that is available.

Also, think about this as well. We older workers are the ones that raised these younger workers. They are our children and children of our friends, and we are the ones who gave into society and let things end up like they are. I personally think these kids are better educated than we were, and that they have just as much to offer or more than we do. My kids high school and college courses were twice as hard as what I took in the 70's. Before you point your fingers at the younger workers take a look into the mirror. They are a product of our child rearing, so to bash on them is to say we did a bad job.

Just my two cents.

They are hubris filled morons. They don't know what they don't know. That shit will always catch up with you eventually.

Not all of us. Some of us recognize we have a lot to learn and the industry veterans have a lot to teach. Don't give up on us!

have you looked up the term Millennials? Lacking respect is the key attribute of this group. All of them have been treated like 'special snowflakes' by their parents and they expect the same treatment at work. They are our future and they know it...
