Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

please weigh on on this serious question

Do you think that the lawsuit settlement will hasten or prolong the demise of EDMC? And, do you think there will be more layoffs at the end of this quarter?

Stocks are a moot point. 8.1% are inside owned at EDMC. The volume being traded is negligible. Its still a penny stock, kids.

Since the DOJ ruled they only plan to hold EDMC accountable for less than a measly percent of the original asking price, why can't all affected students strike similar deals? Because, fraud.

If I were to calculate my new total using the 99.11% discount EDMC got on their ruling, I would only owe $1112.50, and that would still be a ripoff!!!

There will be more layoffs soon, but the company will still be in business for some time. KKR bought EDMC for a reason

Sorry this hurts the feelings of the haters!

Your question is an interesting one because you ask will EDMC fold now or later not even considering that it could last as a long term business. The stock is up 140% to 17 cents a share which says that settling the lawsuit gave the business a jolt much as massive layoffs would. We know the stock price is meaningless but as an indicator it has some value here. The government could have closed EDMC and it didn't. As long as EDMC gets students to enroll and government money it can operate but years of losing money and the fact that KKR doesn't want to run colleges and the CEO doesn't even have a background in education indicates that EDMC will take as much as they can out of the business. Meaning selling off schools, closing and phasing out programs. Their reputation was bad and now it s horrible and all over the press. I can't see it having more than a couple years left. The quality of their product - education - keeps getting worse. Even adjuncts are leaving along with the full timers. Morale among students and faculty is horrible. No one wants to work at the fraud school.
