SG was warned that PLM was going to be a fiasco. There were people in his organization who had been through the previous PDM and PLM initiatives to tell him it was the wrong direction. Those people were then not asked to any more meetings on Agile and the other competitors, and because Agile worked at Apple (with it's 6 products) it was chose for Mattel (with 20K sku's) PLM was supposed to make the company grow, it, along with APQP, was supposed to make product better. What it did, was waste more time that if every person was given a 6 month sabbatical, and cost the company everything. Don't be sad, much bigger companies than Mattel have been in PLM Hell. It requires well-defined processes, and exceptional discipline. Something Mattel cannot do.
Who hijacked this Kilpin thread? Goody's failures are so noteworthy and numerous that they deserve their own thread to avoid dilution here. Kim Kardashian's butt couldn't break the internet, but a Goody Fail Blog might generate some serious traffic. Sell ad space and get rich.
One of the biggest problems of Mattel as in this case is the top leadership's inability to listen to their own people. There is a belief that an outside company that does not do what Mattel does can take a few weeks of interviews and understand exactly what the problems are. And then proceed to concoct a multi-million dollar solution that will answer everyone's problems. Top brass is more willing to listen to a snake oil salesman than their own people. If they're so willing to give money away they could have just parceled out that 70mil to all the employees and called it a day. It's really mind boggling how willing they are to be fleeced.
To answer the last post which is partly correct. He IS RESPONSIBLE because he DIDN'T push back or he's too STUPID to realize that PLM was not a proper fit for the way this place generates product, which also tell us that no one in upper mismanagement has a clue to how this place should run. I knew it wasn't worth a shit in the first meeting where it was introduced. Ray Charles could have seen it. I think I even asked a question if this was some kind of joke and was given the stinkeye by the guy who was presenting the drivel. Inept managers & above don't actually have to use this wretched system so what do they care? Yeah, it's all about self preservation here & SG has been a super large part of this company demise so he'll just get promoted, no worries, great job. There's no way AI Barbie went through PLM as it would still be in development if it did. Question is, when will People Leaving Mattel go away? Answer is, never, as upper mismanagement is too stupid, arrogant, & proud to admit they totally screwed the pooch. Put that in your stupid TRACS SG. NO other toy company on the planet uses this waste of time & energy system but us.
Only for the sake of accuracy and credibility for this forum.....S. Goodman was not responsible for PLM. It was pushed forward from above by those who were blinded by Oracle's promises and lacked the knowledge to recognize that Mattel n company was NOT the right candidate for this product mgmt. software. Goodman and many others that should have raised the RED flag just rolled over cause....self preservation is their thing. As previously stated....$ 70 MM plus virtually down the drain if you don't include all the "that a boy" promotions that were passed out before the launch. There was an earlier post with the question that was never answered. Was PLM used to track the development of the all important I. A. Barbie or was it side stepped to INSURE availability. What do you think? And back to Goodman....his contribution to Mattel's demise is still tremendous without the PLM debacle credit.
Yikes rough crowd out there as far as Goodman is concerned, guess there's no love for him. He is a moody bastard, never quite sure who's gonna show up, Goodman or Badman. He never was really popular unless you were a decent looking woman reporting to him trying to get a promotion but PLM really put him at the top of the hate list here. Swisher & SG both graduated out of ASU together & started @ MattHell together so they're pals but at least Swisher has some skills, he can paint halfway decent & can build a model. I guess it's true that money can't buy you love :) but it can buy you a Fisker is you're stupid enough to actually buy one. Who cares, he's got money to burn, go Lakers.......
It makes perfect sense why Goodman is still here at Mattel. He's sort of a guide to success within this bizarre company. I'm trying to follow in his footsteps but I'm having a hard time cheating on my wife. I love and respect her too much.

Goodman is evil. Terrible leader, with no moral compass. The only party that would take place if he were to leave would be all the people forced to pretend that he is so awesome , they would celebrate the fact that he was gone. I have never met let alone worked for such a slimy waste of space.mi do not understand how or why he is still at mattel. He is a huge reason for the unhappyness and lack of innovation and fun.
Goodman will never have a retirement party for two reasons. First....what would he retire from??? What did he do in that office for the last decade beyond serving his own needs and....direct his org. to "continually" bend over for all other service groups. How could someone beyond G Swisher possibly come up with anything positive to say. Second....short of an actual threat to attend from his direct reports, no one would show up. Not even their favorite free pizza ploy (remember the hush hush incentive for the corp. survey competition) would work at this point. Ask yourself....if you were in a nearly full lifeboat with fellow Mattel HTC colleagues and....you all clearly spotted him as the shark fins started to circle, can you imagine anyone making the effort. Can you?
Wow, ..............seems this last post struck a chord........... not that many replies but the last one kicked my ass :) This entire blog does speak the truth sometimes if you dig deep enough as it's not all bitterness within this site as people would like to cloak it, but with strands of truth for those who really know what is really happening there. It is what it is so we just deal with & get our paychecks while we still can. Happy Thanksgiving everybody.

One down only another 150 plus to go...TK was a nice enough guy but he let talented people get laid off by incompetent, insecure mismanagement who continued to get promoted so in the end he bears the blame but no worries for him. He'll just buy a huge mansion outta Cal as a second home & live out the rest of life like a king while seamstresses who actually worked to pay his million dollar parachute try to make a living on minimum wage. Karma is a bitch so only time will tell. That place smells.
