Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Mattel was to come out with different styles of Barbie. Various hair styles, skin color, eye color, etc, etc. I bought stock in the company shortly afterward...The stock went up about 2 dollars....and now is down about $4 dollars....I am very disappointed. I hope the new changes in management help get some new interests going in this great company. 28 million for the new CEO?....I believe that is way to much money to be given to a new leader....when advertising is greatly needed, and is quite costly. I hope to see a turnaround in the next few weeks.....Thank you

I have a friend who's been working there for over a year now and she hasn't said anything about impending layoffs at the El Segundo location. Same thing was said for Q4 '15 and nothing happened.

It's not EA I'm referring to. It's Mattel.

Unfortunately it seems like management is part of the problem and has regressed to the same base behavior. There is no leadership.

Isn't it management's job to make sure all the disciplines work together? it's evident that the leadership of this company is lacking. Mattel needs to either clean house or just keep spiralling down. Check out the boards for similar companies on this site and you'll see how much more dysfunctional Mattel is than the others.

I was thinking the same thing. So much vitriol between Marketing and Design in the East Coast Offices. Something drastic needs to be done.

If all of you designers were as good as you think you are, we would have innovative toys and marketing wouldn't have to do your jobs. You are all so delusional and worthless. If you were so great you would go and find jobs elsewhere. No one wants any of you. All the great designers are long gone. Sorry. Truth is hard to take.

It sounds like most of you don't have a clue what you are even talking about. This site has turned into a joke thanks to a handful of you who write this type of nonsense. You are all pathetic -- get out of the company. It is never going to change, especially with people like all of you still working there. Most of you cannot even construct a grammatically correct sentence so I'm not sure how you can work in the business world. You're so unhappy and angry yet not enough to give up your paychecks and just quit. Why? Because you would rather whine and complain incessantly than leave and try to be happy elsewhere? Or maybe it's because no other company wants you? For the most part it's probably the same dozen people writing all the derogatory comments. QUIT already. Everyone is tired of your useless rants.

That's not good news. Here in the south bay half the women are wannabe actresses. Even some of the ones working in the ES Tower are still sending out their head shots. Moving to a place where a local 10 wouldn't even get a rating in the south bay doesn't sound promising. No amount of drugs can fix that.

You have no idea how rampant the drugs and adultery really is in EA. Truth. The drugs are a necessity because most of the women up here are built like linebackers and have zero personality. You have to dull the senses to do the deed with half of them up here.

Hell, if there's mass adultery and heroin at the EA office maybe I should put in for a transfer!

EA also has an incredible drug problem (especially heroin) because it's so god damned boring up there that the kids don't have much to do but get high.

I have been to EA a few times and it is a very nice area. Yes, the winters suck but any other time of the year it is beautiful and the people are very friendly. I have heard many in ES refer to them as hicks which just isn't fair. They are hardworking, good people who deserve better than what Mattel has handed them. They are the campus that suffers the most with layoffs because there are few other places to work, unlike NYC or ES.

For those bashing EA, consider this: EA and Western NY are consistently ranked among the best places to raise a family in the US, the schools in EA and surrounding towns are some of the best in all of NY state, and most people are very friendly. So if all this and high quality of life are considered boring, sign me up. Sounds like a good place for a toy company focused on early childhood development to me. EA is a pretty exceptional small town, with FP and a large aerospace engineering firm headquartered in this small town of around 7,000 people. What other towns of that size can say that? Oh and one other thing: if you hate EA, congratulations--you hate America. Because 90% of this country between the coasts is made of small towns similar to EA. EA may not be for you, but let's at least recognize it's a great community for lots of people.

You would have sworn that the sun rose and set around JS. That flamin' a-hole came to EA and at first he gave the impression that he crapped gold bars. He soon turned out to be another ES re-hire that everyone scratched their heads at wondering what was this clown was doing here and what exactly does he do other than socialize and manage up? Of course in true mattel fashion he was bumped up to VP and moved on to hit. And people wonder why we are all so bitter and our morale is in the toilet.

Yes, the ES Flaming A-Holes have been sent to EA. Why do you think they were banished from sunny southern Cali? Competent people who are good to work with aren't sent into the wilderness.

EA current problems can hardly be blamed entirely on ES. There is enough blame to go around.

EA may be boring but at least the people there aren't flaming assholes like all the ES transplants that have been sent there. They have ruined the once friendly and fun atmosphere it used to have.

EA is like peyton place. Not much to do but have affairs with your co-workers and do drugs in your off hours. EA is super boring.

I've never been to EA but hear it's pretty boring compared to Los Angeles with lots of snow during winter. I was born & raised here so I really take this place for granted & you can't beat the location here in the South Bay. Sandy beach down the street, can see the mountains from ES. Weather is awesome with tons of things to do. All we need is a football team :) But actually working here at Matthell in ES if you're below a director or manager sucks so be prepared for that unless you are really good at kissing ass. If you are, you'll do just fine, no worries.

There will be a reduction of small proportions to make way for the transplants that will be coming from NYC once the office closes. They will have to reduce the redundancies and make assessments based on previous performance reviews and need. Granted there aren't a lot of employees from NY that will be offered positions. a handful of designers, and upper management positions that are will to re-locate. Most everyone else, facilities, admins, structure, packaging and a handful of marketing will be shown the door. Those divisions do not garner the respect that they once had and do not warrant relocation. Easily replaceable. I can only see one in packaging being relocated and that would be due to his relationship with a west coast transplant that has taken an inappropriate interest in him. Some in NY might be offered relocation to EA but who really wants to move up there?
