What is the likelihood of Micron Technology layoffs in Boise in 2016? Please let me know if you have any information.

Some fans have been told to not work on anything. Just sustain the line and wait for resolution.
It's already happening and still will for three weeks or until August 1st. Both voluntary and not voluntary
I know someone laid off yesterday...
Micron lays off US citizens then bitches that they don't have enough H1B VISAs. Our government recently quadrupled the number of work VISAs allowed in the country.
Based on past layoffs, new employees are not likely to be affected. Micron targets employees who have been there for 5-10+ years who can be replaced with new college grads or H1B VISA foreigners. Management doesn't care about the extra burden placed on supervisors to train the new employees. And , as someone mentioned earlier, some groups will be affected more than others. One thing is for sure, Boise always gets hit the hardest. So I expect Boise to exceed the 5% mentioned. Management has openly admitted in the past that its easy to layoff employees in the US while it is much more difficult overseas. One thing that has never made sense to me is that managers are rarely let go. Micron needs to seriously clean house on middle management. There are many who are overpaid and toxic to the moral and productivity of the company.
I suspect that the Hiroshima fab will be hardest hit. Seems their workforce is very plump and has been immune to layoffs as part of the Elpida acquisition agreement a few years ago. Now that the agreement terms come to an end in August, They can expect to shoulder a large portion of the workforce reduction.
Two vps in small groups. Now that makes sense Micron. Who looks at this stuff
Yes, but doesn't give away any details.... :/
Durcan's message indicated that it would not be uniform - some areas and some groups will be harder hit, and therefore some less badly.
Guys, does anybody know how is this 5% divided? Equal across the board? And all groups?
Clearly we need to work on our immigration policy. Hope President Trump sends you back to whatever shïthole you crawled out of.
Also apparently a retard. Stop spamming the thread with your nonsense.
I'm super sorry to learn that you might lose your access to our country when your fraudulent H1-B visa is pulled in the next round of layoffs. We'll definitely all miss you and your witty banter.
Okay, I'm seriously starting to suspect that this is the best idea that April Arnzen could come up with to increase employee productivity -- let's hire some Bangladeshi click-farm to spam forums discussing Micron with encouraging slogans about how we can just work harder for less money and everything will be okay next time, unlike 2005, 2008, 2010, 2013, and now 2016.
I'll bet you're a blast at parties. You know, the ones you're invited to, at least. Most of them, probably. People obviously like you and enjoy spending time with you. Hey, I'll bet that super-hot wife of yours is wondering why you're still banging away on the keyboard. Better get to bed - she's not going to bang herself!
Also, what kind of f---wit expects us to go back to work at 10:40 PM on a Thursday?
It's comforting to know that the "LETS GET BACK TO WORK" lunatic posting in this thread survived the first round of layoffs. Glad to see Micron management knows talent when they see it.
The definition of insanity. Look it up.. Expecting different results. Those that work here. Try another path people.
2005.2008.2010.2013.2016.
2500 cut
Janitorial staff.... :)))))))))))
Which area?
5 people walked today from our area
Japan will have a VSP as well, announced later (once the elpida 3 year anniversary is past)
Only Boise, Meridian, and Allen TX have voluntary severance packages. Does that mean the 5% come from just the locations.
Looks like I over estimated by quite a bit on the total number, but 5% is still a sh--load of people.
and there it is...
"The expected impact will be less than 5 percent of our global team member population, with impact varying by site and function. Voluntary departure packages will be offered in some locations. You will hear more from your executive very soon on how these changes impact your organization and/or location."
I would guess it can affect anyone.
Would it affect new-comers? (<1 year)
My educated "guess" based on discussions with several not-in-the-know managers. Because of the upcoming holiday, the announcement will happen today following earnings of a voluntary severance program. After a 10 to 15 day period, the layoffs will begin (if necessary, depending on the number of volunteers). My guess is about 30% world wide reduction (based on these conversations) with likely 10 to 15% from Boise. I think Japan will be hardest hit though. If there is no announcement today, than your guess is as good as mine.
Take everything on this blog with a grain of salt. Some things are true. Some things being said are false. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If you don't like what is being said don't read it. Go build Chips! Loose the anger Bro, it's not worth it. Like someone said let's just see what happens. Geeze!
Rumors on a thread such as this doesn't exactly count as "education" or a credible source of feedback. I suggest we all wait only a couple of days ;)
Lol. Hope you feel better. people want to be educated and have some sort of feedback channel. Let's hope they treat those that are loyal and proven well and give them priority,
They are coming. Announcement will be Thursday or Friday. There will be a voluntary RIF. If they don't get the needed numbers then the layoff will follow. Between 10% and 15% across the board.
7/7/7 was a "Saterday". That's was when the 07 layoffs started.
Most of you are either fear mongering or bitching. Example: "layoffs will be July 16". That is Saterday idiot! As for the bitchers, nobody wants to sift through your snivelling to read the good gossip.
That's because the process is jacked up. Your only as good as the senior manager or vp of your area thinks you are regardless of your performance scores or how hard you work. It's a shame.
I'd really like to know what area's are so slow that they only have 3 hours of work a day. My area is understaffed and people are quitting left and right because they don't trust management. Some members of the leadership team are extremely toxic and burning people out. I do not see my area taking a hit, but who knows, I've been through several of these now and the cuts in all but one were a complete shock.
Already happening......some have already been told. Will be announced on Thursday after earnings from what I hear
If given the chance... take the voluntary and run
If you have anything to do with manufacturing and you are in the states hold on to your hat! The U.S. is not where Micron wants the manufacturing to be. You are going to be lay off casualty. It is starting already!
