Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

Not sure if the rumors are true.

Overheard talk of union activity, employee pushback since the recent layoff notice. I am hearing folks want to cut their losses without getting burned but there is an excess of volunteers for the layoff and now we are anticipating a "lottery" or something like that. It just gets more and more messed up.

A move to unionize would take years--UoP is on life-support and will likely layoff another three or four-thousand employees in the next three years as enrollments will continue to contract. The DoE is determined to right-size UOP to fewer than 100K students by the end of 2018--they will get there and save thousands of students and millions of taxpayers billions of dollars. UoP will be just another fish is the education lake soon.

The forming of a union and required representation to begin/initiate terms is a two-part process. While great in theory, the time needed verses the actual events currently happening is not favorable to union formation. Downsizing is happening at a greater pace than in previous years, and the bargaining of those employees still with UoP is minimal. Human capital is expendable at UoP, hence the reason voluntary layoffs were presented as an option.

In short, take the money before there is none for the taking or proceed at your own risk.
