Maybe Layoff is Better - Cummins Games With Shifts and Displaced Workers

OK, how about this - when lines go away and jobs are lost those employees are to go to other areas in the plant. For example a worker with 10+ years experience on a first shift may get forced to another shift until they find another job within the plant. That's if there is job requisition available - try to get that, good luck.. Meanwhile there are temps who are working the first shift in other areas where the displaced workers could work. When you are displaced, you have only one year to find other job or they will place you wherever they want. In most cases you will get the third shift the assembly area.

I worked in the shop for over 35 years. Got laid off 4 times. Got laid off the last time with 18 years seniority. Then you did not go to other plants, you just went out the door. Cummins did not care about us though, would layoff maybe a 1000 people then start working the remaining people 7 days a week. Now after you retire your health insurance goes from 200 and some dollars a month to 500 and some dollars a month. Way to thank a retired person. You people with just a short time working at Cummins will see what happens to you in the coming years. Good luck!
