Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

BMC Boise

I work for BMC Boise for over 4 years, our recent December start was 2. We have not hit budget or even come close to our start # for all this year. Our DOA is a joke, clueless but a buddy of Scott in Phoenix. Instead of firing her for poor performance they transfer her to New Mexico campus. Why? She is going to under perform there too. Our Campus Director is just as bad, clueless, he is in the wrong business. This campus will announce its teach out in January or February so sad had great potential just really poor leadership with no idea on how to be a leader or inspire people to be more than what they are. If you want change, change management.

The entire campus approach is doomed. Online kills everything no matter where it is because it is too convenient and meets too many needs. It makes sense to go to a 'place' at a 'time' once in a while but never on a regular weekly basis. The world has changed and all this does is add costs to a process. You can be as inspiring as you like but the convenience of online will trump everything and it is only getting better. The MOOCs and nano-degrees are enormous threats. People often say well they had 70,000 sign up and only 5000 finished. Yes it is a big difference but that 5000 number dwarfs all regular on-ground numbers and the persistence numbers of MOOCs is increasing as significant universities are using the MOOC approach as a way for students to sample and not pay until they finish.

We are watching the thinning of the herd but the ones left will be stronger. No telling who is standing at the end but the need is just increasing waiting for someone to really meet it.
