Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

They Don't Care

You all keep posting your comments here. Management doesn't care. They are in it for the short term, to bolster the resume with the highest Title they can get, and sell themselves to the next sucker. Half of these bozos have delusions of becoming the next big Hollywood producer.

Management at Mattel used to be toy people. Larry Wood was here for 40 years, loved what he did, didn't want to do anything else. That's the type of people we need managing the company today.

The current management doesn't care about toys, playability, or anything this company was founded on. They care about making sure they get paid more than they contribute, and getting to the next level. That is all. It is so ingrained in the culture of the company it can never be fixed.

We all had to take some sort of Art class at Uni. Was a requirement for graduation. I know it made me an expert!

Chris made his bones by being a lucky sperm who grew up in India and parlayed his family contacts and his knowledge of the Wogs to figure a way to sell sugar water to them.

What that has to do with designing and selling toys worldwide is lost on me.

Get your facts straight, people. Ted & Chris' excellent adventure and meteoric rise are duly deserved. They both took an art class elective in college, so they are artists and experts. Bow to them, for they are the chosen ones. This is Mattel, you dare not hope to overcome them with talent, skill, logic, knowledge, or reason. But when it all hits the fan, they will do you the honor of personally throwing you under the bus. Until then, smile, nod, and act enthusiastic while cowering, in fear and hope to survive into 2016.

Depending on which manager or team you're talking about, it doesn't matter if they know about cars or engines, or how to draw cars. The track and playset team doesn't need to know about cars, neither does the innovation team or graphics...they're not the ones designing cars. The team and management design the cars know cars (and engines), I bet they know very little about track and playsets.

As for the VP of Design being a Marketing person...well, there is just no logic in that. Talent still exists in the company, it's just overshadowed by poor decisions and abundance of VP's that do very little to help the company.

That was many, many years ago when actual real talent mattered here. L Wood spent more time generating art for his T-shirts/Early Times Car Club at the copy machine but at least he could draw vehicles unlike the two current Design managers in Not Wheels that don't know the difference between a 427 big block & a 426 Hemi. A marketing guy is VP of Not Wheels, really? Talent no longer exists here anymore which is why this placed is so F#ked up now. It's all about the AKC. Who ass can you kiss & who's kissing yours. You are correct that it's so ingrained in this place now that it can't & will never be fixed.
