Thread regarding Noble Energy Inc. layoffs

There is a manager in Denver who had better hope they don't go through his e-mail. The guy spends more time on his side deals that he does on Noble business. ooops... I forgot managers are "above-board and "beyond-reproach".

Bull**** Anonymous184921! Again, it's about the buddy system! I know for a fact it's true! I witnessed not only that, but also a manager checking on an employee on Cartesite, numerous times! Another manager mentioned how he was watching an employee's daily routine, which they didn't like! Ha, even showed me where the district manager was!

Managers don't need legal or manager approval to be able to snoop on employees. Only requires a simple email to a random person in IT. WRONG! But some managers are out to get their own employees. Careful.... your manager just might have your inbox loaded onto his/her computer.

Actually there is plenty of truth in it. Its been done and more than once. Also heard from very reliable source that some managers have closely monitored their employees hours. They were given hell for being 10 minutes late. Interestingly no notice was made when they worked until 9pm. Probably doesn't happen in every team, not every manager is an ass.

There is zero truth in that. Managers need high level and legal approval to snoop in employees emails....and no one is calling "headhunters" to see who is call them...that's just false.

We all know that the company has the right to go through the email of any employee. We can read the disclaimer every time we log on. However in my opinion it should be reserved for something that would be considered a serious malfeasance such as a conflict of interest or something illegal or criminal. Not snooping on employees to gain ammo in order to lay them off. Further evidence of this disingenuous, duplicitous and dishonest management team.

The company email is Noble's property and they do have the legal right to review what's there. At the same time it's rather petty and vindictive to make an issue out of headhunter contacts. Doubly so since the vast majority of Noble employees were hired in the last 8-10 years and many were recruited through headhunters (including the managers). This manager's time would have been better spent trying to figure out whats wrong with the company that makes people look elsewhere and try to fix it. Behaving as they did only drives more people out.

Headhunters often seem to find your work contact info first, perhaps from trade directories or they cold call through the main number. When I get those calls/emails I've often wondered if it's a setup by the company to check on loyalty. At most I'll take their contact info and then check through other sources to see if they are legit. Moral of the story: conduct your job search efforts on your own equipment.

I think it is weird that you think that is news.

Of course, any company you work for will have full access to your email troll.

If you use your work email for work purposes you will be fine (if this rumor is true). If you use your work email to contact headhunters you are probably not smart enough to keep a job for long anyway.

I guess I am not all that surprised by this revelation... as sickening as it is.
