During months of uncertainty, one thing is clear. You obviously need to be in the 'inner circle' to have any hope of a continuing paycheck. That's sad. More of an inner circle jerk and yes, Mattel has always been that way. The only fix is to tear it down and rebuild from the ground up with talented, passionate people who know the business and love the products. It has always been cliquey at Mattel. Back in the 1990s one department was ruled by a psycho who expected everyone to worship her god in her way including going on cruise ships for days at a time with other worshippers.
Either you converted and went on the cruises or you needed to look for a job somewhere else if you had hopes of moving up into a management position.
