Thread regarding Office Depot Inc. layoffs

Major changes coming. If you haven't found another job you need to ASAP (if your in main office or store management)!

Everyone is leaving main office in droves. We have been given notice that there will be mandatory meetings at the end of the month and early into next month. No one is talking about what these meetings will be for but in HR we have been told to bring everyone's files current so people can be documented out of the system as quickly and efficiently as possible; retail included. It looks like major changes are coming quickly.

Bitchin*'s fine, but what you really should be doing is this - WRITE YOUR CONGRESSPERSON - tell 'em that the "top dogs'" salaries should be slashed to save the "peons'" jobs. I'm making it easy for ya - here's the numbers, now get to dialing!!! http://www.congressmerge.com/onlinedb/cgi-bin/newseek.cgi?site=congressmerge&state=ma Are you really going to let this bunch of greedy people get away with this? Call & complain!!!!!!!!!

My omax store closed in may. My ex managers stayed till the very end. They all got 12 weeks severance in one lump sum. Even then office depot gave them helll to get it. I accepted a job at a office depot store but quit within 2 weeks as my hours were drastically cut. The whole objective with this company is lay off all the employees who been there for too long. I suggest if you can get severance take it and dont quit just not yet. In the meantime look for another job. Dont work for this comapny or staples or any retail store for that matter. Retail is dying its best to find a new career that pays well and somewhere they respect you as an individual. I Did and work 9-5 fulltime and weekends off. Its been great not dealing with all the bullshit office depot had.

@Anonymous157729 Are you sure about this? For as many people that are leaving, they cannot seem to bring in people fast enough....Why would you encourage people to leave and give up their severance????

People:

DONT LEAVE FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE - YOU'LL GIVE UP YOUR SEVERANCE........2 weeks for each year worked....that's something to hold you over when you lose the job. IF YOU LEAVE, YOU DON'T GET THE SEVERANCE.. IF YOU LEAVE, YOU ARE THROWING AWAY A COUPLE OF THOUSAND DOLLARS....DON'T LEAVE! DON'T LOOK FOR ANOTHER JOB. OD MUST PAY YOU YOUR SEVERANCE, BUT ONLY IF YOU STAY AND THEY LET YOU GO. DON'T QUIT!!!!!!

What is the reasoning behind this? What specific positions are being eliminated? Wht if you are Managment in a small market who will they replace you with. Is this happening to tenured associates? Is the merger even going to happen?

Sorry you guys are going through this. Try to find something while they are hiring for Christmas. The good news is the job market is better. At least here it is. You guys have a lot to offer. There are possibilities outside of retail. School systems are having a hard time keeping tech. people in the schools. Good luck to everyone!!
