Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

You've been paying RSU's and retention units, and VCIP bumps

Hey DamnKids, read it again. I was quoting another poster - those aren't my words in quotes. Just FYI, I am one of the old guys. I have a lot of old guy friends that work there, and a few that already got caught up in the system. And a lot of young ones that I mentor. Not sure where you are coming from, but if you read that post of mine again, I think the only thing I said was severance pay is probably going to incentivize a lot of the older guys to leave. I know that for a fact, judging from what some of my old guys co-workers have told me. Some of the managers are ok with this. It's a tough spot for even them to be in. You have 55 yr old plus employees that are the backbone, that volunteer to go, and its easiest just to take them. But then you are left with a big void of experience. But at this point, you cannot motivate someone to stay that is already thinking leave. Hell, you've been paying RSU's and retention units, and VCIP bumps. That has barely maintained status quo. What can you do going forward? For people who look at the scale of change and say its not the company I have spent most of my career in, and its been lucrative enough, and I would just rather move on. Oh, and my point regarding the cycle of oil is just that - it is cyclical. If you cannot deal with that, then you need to look at another industry. It's survival for periods, and then take it to the bank for periods. We are just coming off a take it to the bank period. Look at it, there have been retention bonus programs for the last three years, and now there are layoffs. Just recognize what it is for what it is, and decide to put up with it. Or not. And yeah, I have got over 30 years, with the same company. So with all due respect, don't lecture me on what you know about us old guys.
