Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

1314 laid off in San Diego -- about 10-11% RIF. Rest by attrition?

More than 15% was expected in San Diego to get to 15% RIF worldwide. Was there significant attrition since layoffs were announced? Or more waves of layoff expected later this year and early next year? I bet they are trying to save on packages by counting on attrition -- 2 months between announcement and mid-sept. And another two months between now and the next wave? May be good strategy for saving cost on layoff packages but doesn't it destroy morale if they don't do it in one wave? Or they think it will make the rest of them work harder to survive the next wave?

How many of those thousands were contractors. QC doesn't have to notify if they are just letting the contracts expire. They may not have to notify at all for contractors. (Speculation on my part).

Apparently an optimization problem.

156757: someone should file an IDF for this innovative "2+2" strategy for maximizing attrition!

Or 15% layoff + 5% attrition = 20% reduction

i was told next major layoff in January; it will not be announced early though. just 7 days in advance so employees are not frightened again. san diego site will be hit harder on this one with a larger percent being effected. but total percent will be closer to 10%

@Anonymous156763, several thousands in San Diego? I believe EDD filings show 1314 in San Diego and union tribune article is quoting that number.
