how can a company transfer an employee to another company which is not its subsidiary. Why refusing to that offer means you forfeit your severance? When you get laid off is it not mandatory for the company to provide severance or compensation?

@Anonymous155964 - Hello. I apologize because I thought you were speaking to the person who started this segment. I just replied under the name Anonymous156077 with why i believe these practices are unethical. This example is about my dad and what happened to him as well as many others. Will this be published?
Well, im not the person who started this segment but let me tell you why i think this offer is unethical. My father has worked with HP for 18 years in Canada and was laid off in July, given an offer from Adecco/Modis and told that if he didn't except by August 15th, he would lose everything (this goes for a large majority of HP workers in his building). Some workers in the USA were told that if they didn't except the offer, they would be let go without a severance package. By to my dad, the issue is the offer from Modis, an offer that slashed his pay by 30% or about $20,000 a year and eliminated most if not all of his benefits. Seniority has become redundant because now he makes $40,000 a year (entry level salary) and is expected to do the exact same job. All of these ex-employees find this offer insulting considering their skills and time at the company, leading many to refuse. But he is nearly 60 and does not have enough saved for early retirement so this offer is really the only choice. He and many of his co-workers say that they would be happy to become contract workers and continue HP just as long as they were given a respectful job offer. Hope that answers the question, if you are a real journalist
A journalist researching the story here - can you give us more details about why you feel the offer was not ethical. Also, if you are willing to talk on the record, please respond with yes/no here and I'll post my contact info
Legal, but disgusting and unethical, but that depends on the laws in your province/state, or country. That goes for the Adecco/Modis offers as well
