Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Notice last day is Mar 31. What would you do for the job hunting? only 4 and half year service in Q. Thank you!

My notice said that if I resign before Mar 31, no severance package would be paid. After tax total package is around 20K, not that much, but still not a small amount of money. Is it too early to start job hunting right now or it's better to wait until January to start the job hunt while in the meantime I can start preparing for the interviews? Like to hear your thoughts!

Or is it possible to negotiate with HR to still get some part of the package even if I resign before March?

Thank you!

Not voluntarily! They are forced out.

Same thing happened to me before , I'd start looking if you find something you really like then jump , you can try negotiate a good hiring bonus Equal to your severance

This is insane, to linger around till March and can't exit until then. I would GTFO and for-go the severance as soon as a good job lines up. You may even try to negotiate with the next employer for some sign-on bonus if they really want you.

Wow.... At least update your resume and send it out to the jobs that look like a perfect fit if you have the time to be picky. And don't be too proud to apply for unemployment in November for the extra $1800 per month. This is paid for by QCOM. I felt obligated to apply, if only to stick the knife in QCOM's side just a little. Applications are online on the EDD website.

20,000 after taxes is closer to 10,000. I would start updating my resume and looking even if little by little. If a great opportunity comes along I would take it. A great new job is worth a lot more than 10,000. You will need one sooner or later so ...

Sorry about the 4.5 years lost. Hope you learned a lot to take away.

the 20k is a joke compared to taking a good job as soon as it comes by.

Not many company is going to wait half a year to get you on board even if you send resume and get an offer right now, I guess, unless he offer is too good to ignore the loss of 20k.

QC is pushing out severance payouts to 2016 so the books look better year end. They don't want you but dont want to kill the bottom line by axing everyone at once. layoffs are very expensive
