I was one of the first ones called in..I was told my skill set does not match for what they need anymore...They told this to me knowing I have done every single task in this department successfully with very good reviews. I was laughing and confused at the same time... I have been with QC long time and what makes me sad is to leave the good people I work with. I don't give a rats ass about my boss or bosses boss or his boss...They are bunch of cowards, liers and ass kissers. They build this hallow empire department and looked out for their own interest rather than their employees. My department director was not laid off today. Since he was not attached to a single program last 10 years, I thought for sure he would be the first one to go..To my surprise, he is still in his office eating snacks all day long and continue to be henchman for his bosses. It is sickening how ass kissers kept their jobs and people who actually adds value are laid off. Couple more things........First, have an interview with another company in San Diego..so wish me luck....Second, I gave piece of my mind to Sr. Director in front of HR during lay off process...That felt wonderful. My package is same as everyone else...8 weeks and 2 weeks per year...I still loved what I did for work and I worked with some great people. If you just shit can the Management, QC would be great company once again...Who knows, our path may cross again one day.....Good Luck everyone....Stay Strong my Friends...

I think I know who you are , my dear friend and mentor. (That age gives you away.) Actually, your rich experience saves me several time and I've learnt a lot from you. Thank you and all the best. Keep in touch.
I am glad to hear that I am not the only one that was told that my "skill sets" were lacking, even though I perform tasks in my group that no one else knows how to do, plus do extensive work for program managers that aren't even in my own group. As I told the director who handed me my package, and the HR person that I will be meeting with today, "Those words are derogatory, demeaning, and insulting." This is how I was notified: At 8 a.m. my director's director walked into my office, gave me a big grin, and a "2-thumbs-up" sign (this is no joke) and, I'm sitting there thinking, "phew, he's telling me that I'm fine and that our group is fine", only to ask me the next minute, "Do you have some time to talk in my office?" I was stunned. I got into his office and he grinned again and said, "I was able to get a package for you!" I guess he thought he was doing me a favor? I have been at Q for 21 years and have never been so insulted. And then to be told that my skill sets don't match what the business needs as they move forward, even though the group will be doing the same exact thing that they are doing right now. I imagine it's because of my longevity and the fact that I am 62 - my services are no longer needed - and my 2 coworkers will not have to do the same work that I was doing - even though they have no clue how to. Reply to Anonymous155392 - you are ABSOLUTELY correct!!!! I told the truth when I did my director's 3rd party review, and was told by her director, "Wow, this is going to make it hard to do her review." Yes, I am being screwed for being honest. Life goes on, and there will be something better than QC out there - but at the moment I feel absolutely degraded and insulted.
I have lost my job 3 times in the Bay Area (2 times from the same company and they took me back in another department after the 1st time). Everything looks crumbled. I urge you to be like Jack Ma. He was rejected at Harvard 10 times. Ma was also the only person out of 24 candidates to not be offered a job at KFC.
You have got to build yourself and YOU ARE THE MAN. Don f*king let anyone take that away from you. Come out of the employee mentality and think of yourself as a brand and build it.
Screw the SMs, Murthys etc...
Will a similar scenario happened to me. I saw the lawsuits because I thought I was discriminated against. Not only that other stuff that was discriminated against I encourage you to do the same my friend. Best of luck to you. If you are NIT, or Electrical Engineering or any sort of engineering my company has a place for you. I recently found a job and we are looking for good people. If there is a way that you can get in contact with me let's try and figure it out. The company I work for is a defense contractor and we prefer seasoned veterans. I was let go a little earlier than most so if you need a hand, I may be able to help you.
Typical Qualcomm--they blame you by saying that the problem is your skills. I look forward to you finding a company to work for that values and rewards you for those skills.
I agree 100% on ALL your assesment! Spot on. Good luck dude in your search. It irritates me that good-for-nothing dropouts from other companies are directors and Sr. directors, and engineers are at their mercy! QCT is too top heavy without real understanding of engineering problems.
All the best to you
Please come back to our office tomorrow to discuss. Otherwise, we may withhold your last paycheck.
Realistically, this is not that much different from most large corporations. There are alway ass kissers and liars that seem to get ahead, and there are hardworking honest people that try to deal straight and get screwed for being honest. It's politics. It's just like the TV show Survivor - always scheming and lying to get ahead.
You're the best
Sorry it happened to u.
Can u post your building name if not the name of your director
Thanks for sharing, best wishes.
Cool story bro
