Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

I would not appreciate what Qualcomm did today but I really appreciate they have handled the whole situation.

Some of the strategies they used

1) Spreading/diffusing the tension by padding two months, both sides, for this day.

2) Controlled/Restricting the information flow

3) Effected employee intimation by directors.

Lets hope similar intelligent strategies for business as well!

Anybody with connections at the Harvard Business School? Let's give them the details what has transpired at the Q in the last 2 years. Like executives not seeing the down turn market, still hiring like there is no end in sight to the demand and then Yikes, what happened? Apple dumps us and so does Samsung. We never saw that coming - REALLY! - and have them use it in their MBA case study program. Wouldn't that be interesting to see what they had to say? Could we audit the classes for the discussion?

The 2 month notice was awful! Everyone was stressed about the news. Even those that had nothing to worry about were worried. Productivity dropped like a rock. Let'sbe transparent folks, the only reason they gave 2 months notice was in the hopes it would pop the stock price. As they say -"Follow the Money". Pathetically in this case it did not work!

You only appeciate it from the perspective of saving money for the company. Let's face it, they just did it to drive up attrition, so some people would leave without having to get paid any severance.

And it's a lot of a$$ to kiss, I'll have you know. Gotta go, no time to talk now. Lips busy.

I took HR fracking 2 months to "carefully" select workers to cut.

Don't forget the ones affected by RIF not gone for another 2,4,6 months.

Morale can't be high for them, and people who know and work with them.

Those who applauded the RIF process are indeed morons and ae-holes.

They are probably the Murthy a$$-kissers that talk well but do nothing.

"It was a very well handheld operation. " - my org didn't get any notice of which n this started and when this ended. I heard from someone who knows someone in my org about how many got affected. And here morons like you are applauding this lack of communication?

Send this to business school and see what they say!.. Probably the worst layoff ever!

I disagree with the one below me. This two-months prior to today drove away hundreds of true talents into the competitors, perhaps many of them aren't in the list. They left because they don't know if that near-random layoff list will have their names on it. Two months is too much, perhaps two weeks make more sense.

It was a very well handheld operation. you rather want the news unsuspectingly? The decision to disclose RIF 2 months prior was correct. Its not about worrying those who were not affected but give people chance to start looking for other opportunities as well so those who are affected don't panic. just imagine coming to work tomorrow and hearing the news of you getting laid off without any notice.

Are you ****ing kidding me? the 2 month period was a terrible decision. Not only did they delay the painful announcement thus worrying even those who were not going to be affected, but they also did not get rid of so many of the useless status collectors. As usual QC screwed this up too.

I cannot see how you can draw any positives from this - unless you're from HR.
