Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

Renegotiating Contracts

There was an article this week from Business Insider about how HP is in the process of renegotiating the contracts of some workers that were sent to Ciber. My dad who used to work for HP was laid off and sent over to Modis, forcing him to take a massive pay cut. With this recent news, does anyone know if HP is also doing the same thing with people sent to Modis/Adecco in the United States and in Canada?

Yes he received a severance package which was fairly reasonable. The issue is the offer from Modis, which slashed his pay by 30% or about $20,000 a year and eliminated most of his benefits and seniority his has become redunant. Canadian workers find this offer insulting considering their skills and time at the company, so I can only imagine how the US workers feel who get this and no severance. Even if they were going to reduce pay by 5 or even 10%, but 30% is a joke! -Anonymous152656

First time I am hearing that this is also happening in Canada. Was there any severance offered to your dad, as Canadian laws are pretty strict about severance pay. Can someone confirm?

Very interesting. And in these meetings, were you given a time line for when this process could occur? -Anonymous152038
