Yes, this site has been pretty accurate per se. Why is J Pratte still there? Polly Pockets E Maz? Our stock is in the sewer & will continue to fall Farr far from where it was before you got here Kevin. Nothing a new Lambo cant't fix........so, let's continue to lay off more seamstresses with young children & people in the Sound Lab that actually did their jobs right? If this site was all fabricated fiction it would have evaporated long ago, but there is truth here & we all know it. And we also know that upper mismanagement will continue to deny it. Cook the Q3 books, no one will look , upper mismanagement are all crooks :) Drink the Q3 KooliAide in mid October as the headwinds winds continue to blow for no other toy company than Mattel.
Ummm
I like being bitter. Hopefully when you get laid off (original poster) it will be a big surprise!
Seriously where have you been? It's been going on for a couple of months. Wait... Are you Wrong Way?
That may explain it.
As another person commented many weeks ago, Mattel is like George Orwell's Animal Farm. All animals are equal. but some are more equal than others. Classic case at Mattel where EVP's SVP's, VP's, Directors & Sr. Managers are all boot licking yes men. Bitterness on this site, of course there is, for sure, but there is also TRUTH on this site by those who have witnessed the unfair/unjust treatment by the idiots who are making all the WRONG decisions yet are not being held accountable for those decisions. TK, Evil Maz, Dave Loss, D Wad, C Clown, FarrGone, "Dr." Snore, Wrong Way, do nothing Shame Amster, the list goes on & on................ Why are these idiots still gainfully employed while the hard working people who carried out their stupid decisions are being laid off? Really? Mattel is now at the Top of the 100 Worst Companies to work for. Upper mismanagement will just blame it on those damn headwinds at the end of Q3 that no other large toy company seems to be suffering from. Those pesky headwinds are just relentless. Hopefully Karma is coming as what goes around comes around.
Yep--happened to me back in June (prior to end of quarter). Another end of quarter is coming up, so look out!
I'm nervous about next week. You just never know anymore. It's hard to stay positive in an environment like that. Yes, this site has bitterness but where else can an employee turn when we don't know how the company is planning to handle such a decline. We're just numbers and cost centers on the spread sheet. No one is safe. Unfortunately some of us still love our jobs and still show up and try to make it better everyday.
Bitterness comes when inept HR cuts everyone below VP level - yet the root cause of Mattel's woes are with the brand leadership at the VP or above level. SC, LP, EV and KC were the SVP and VPs of Marketing and Design for Girls and Barbie and oversaw the 3 year decline of Barbie, the abortive launch of Ever After High, and a puzzling fixation to save Polly Pocket even though it's dead. At most companies, with that track record the brand management would be fired. Instead, the marketing heads were just reassigned - one to a role she had no prior knowledge in how to run - and design was kept intact on the sinking ship. So when modelmakers, soft goods seamstresses and others are let go, there will be bitterness until Mattel gets rid of the marginal to ineffective VPs and above. But since the current HR in the DC has been an integral part of every move vs firing, don't hold your breath. So yes, people are bitter because Mattel has never been this poor in cutting the Indians and keeping all the chiefs.
The only way to affect change is for those of us still at Mattel to spread the word (albeit silently) to our co-workers about this site so that eventually more and more people start expressing their opinions here and eventually the higher ups will get the message. I'm not talking revolution but this is the only way they're ever going to know how we feel. it's not like the surveys are anonymous. They know who makes what comments.
Also don't forget your friends who've been let go. look out for them and any opportunity that you think might help. There are many talented people who are up there in age who were let go unfairly and are having a tough go at finding work and have mouths to feed. Even if you can't find them work, staying in touch and showing that you care goes a hell of a long way.
Yes anon people are bitter they are having their livelihoods taken from them by over paid executives
How they justify salaries that are hundreds of thousands of dollars more than the folks that are doing the designing and practical work
Is beyond disgusting its criminal... The whole system is and has been for a long time out of balance.
And yay to this website for giving me a place to express with others my disappointment and bitter feelings.
Also to all the grammar police out there, I'm sure I can do plenty of things better than you, so stop wielding that over those of use that liked art and shop classes more then spelling bees and English lit !
I'm also not keen on personal attacks like the one about the HR person(we all know who they were calling out) that is pretty mean spirited.
Here is hoping things improve and folks don't need a site like this any longer
Anon....look beyond the trees. This is a site for all of us victims of corruption. Our chosen livelihoods have been taken away by those who are responsible for running this company in a competent manner. For many of us this is the only "get back" option available. To expose all the wrongs for public consumption is helpful...in a small but important way. Wouldn't you agree? - And if your motivation was just to stir us up for a reaction, then you succeeded. You won ???
apologies on the typos, I was raped via autocorrect on my phone. I won't date you (well maybe I will) but I dare you to spread the word and get people to respond to the accusations.
yes, this is a site filled with gripes and bitterness but can you say it's unfounded? have you looked at our stock prices? the reduction in severance and reduction in retirement benefits? our loss in ranking amongst our competitors on a global scale? if you can say that you go to work every day for Mattel and it's a great environment then my friend you are one of the mindless sheeple. I've been with Mattel for quite a while now and never have I seen the morale as low as it's current state. Can we bounce back? I sure hope so, but the confidence in leadership from a non management perspective is just not there. especially when we are the ones constantly on the chopping block for following their directives. I swear ever year since Stockton came into power and we'd be writing our TRACS based on our directors & managers goals I felt like I was writing my own career death certificate. Now granted there has been finger pointing on this site, but again is have yet to see anyone defend said finger pointing. so if you think the cooments here are in error or unjustified then I challenge you to respond in kind or tell our fellow employees what's being said and have them stand up for themselves and lets get a discussion going here because we all know that opening your mouth in the office is a sure fire way to being walked out the door do put up or shut up. go spread the word! I date you.
You need to dig a bit deeper buddy - I've been on this site for over a year, the site predicted every single cut we had so far with a stunning level of accuracy. There is a ton of junk here, so don't get me wrong, you just need to figure out how to cancel out the noise and focus on substance. It's almost like fishing, you keep waiting, scanning things etc, and eventually a good thread will start. The fact you are not seeing anything of substance on the front page is actually good, this indicate that we are safe in the short term. As soon as you start seeing threads that sound more serious and focused on layoffs, that is the moment when we need to get concerned.
