Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

I've been with the company for over 30 years and have been through more layoffs than you can imagine.

The CEO is always over paid PEROID. It's not even a piece of the the picure. . If you want to work for an oil company, you'd better be perpared for the ups and downs. I've seen too many people riding the wave and expecting it will last forever. I've ridden the waves and worked my ass off to make myself an integral park of the company. I do not dwell on what I can't control, but what I can. II DO expect to get hit this round due to wages, but for the young folks, learn to do your job and do it well. Longievity is not a given. Don't expect a medal just because you can make it to the office.

Performance is not recognised - "a different type" of investment right?

Quite a bit of frustration is due to the fact a high percentage of the individuals involved in the layoffs were not presented with opportunities to become an integral part of the company. In part the opportunities did not exist due to the cyclical nature of the industry and the efforts on the part of management to stage endless constractors and employees for layoffs. The new hires do not have an opportunity to learn to do the job and do it well with the exception of the on campus recruits (OCR) and the high potential (HP). And the high potential employees are more often than not part and parcel of the OCR. Performance is not recognized. OCR and HP are recognized.
