Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Micro managing and out of touch. Driving Staples into the ground

Why do we have district managers. What exactly do they do? No clue what the stores are really like. Living in their own reality. Micro managing to a fantasy.

In regions where there are clusters of stores (mostly in the East) I think they will eventually increase the number of stores per DM and get rid of 1/3 of them. I agree though, our DM is pretty much just a filter for the RVP (who should also be cut). They want everything and give no resources to get the job done. Then they selectively eliminate people based on flavor of the month metrics. Eliminating 1/3 of the DMs and 1/3 of the RVPs and SVPs would save more $ than going after individual store managers. Most store managers I know are extremely frustrated and really want to run better stores, but have their hands tied.

Why couldn't divisional speak directly to gms. Their position seems redundant. Wouldn't eliminating one position save the company tons?
